What would do you get when you take flagships from Samsung and Apple and cut down their price by almost half? Xiaomi has the answer in the Xiaomi Mi Note Pro. The phone is bound to be the true flagship killer the only down point is that it’s not for everyone. The MI Note Pro is available only in China (damn you Chinese). However, very soon Xiaomi is making it available in India.
Glass and Metal Built and Unique Design
With 5.7 inches screen size, the Mi Note Pro is a solid built and well-designed phablet. A complete glass body with gold coloured metal bezel gives this phone an impressive look. The Mi Note Pro has a more pronounced curve glass at the back, which gives the device an interesting and unique look. This also makes gripping the phone easy. The relatively low price has in no way affected the design of the device. The phone stands out with an identity of its own in terms of design.
On the front of the device, you get an earpiece, the front camera lens, an LED notification light, and the ‘mi’ logo on the top of the display. Below the display is three capacitive touch buttons for action, home, and back commands.
Find the volume rocker and power button on the right edge of this phone. Both keys are made of metal and very tactile and easy to press. On the left side is the SIM cards tray slot. The 3.5-mm audio jack is located on the top while the bottom is occupied by the USB port and speaker grill. On the back of this phone is the main camera, dual LED flash ‘mi’ branding and some legal information.
The Mi Note Pro is a large phone, however, on the front of one hand usability, Xiaomi has done an incredible job by keeping the device thin and shrinking down the side bezels. Therefore, it is not quite difficult to use it in one hand as you might initially think. Although there is still a little bit of shuffling required to reach every corner of the display in single hand operation.
IPS LCD QHD 5.7 inches Display
The Phablet features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a 515 PPI pixel density. This is a great screen size to consume all sorts of media and playing gamers.
Xiaomi is letting itself be known as a strong contender by bringing a QHD display. The display has nice colour reproduction, a nice level of brightness, and the colour tone, which can be set according to the user preference. It might not be as remarkable as the Note 5 super AMOLED QHD display, but it is a pleasant display on its own.
64-bit Snapdragon Processor and 4GB RAM
Xiaomi offers computer kind of specs on the Mi Note Pro. With such advance and premium specifications, this is a real deadly smartphone in the market.
Xiaomi Mi Note Pro includes top of the line 64-bit Octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor. Actually, the processor is a combination of two quad-core chipset – one clocked at 1.5 GHz whereas another executes instruction at a speed of 2GHz. Accompanying the chipset is an impressive 4GB of RAM and Adreno 430 GPU. With such impressive configuration, the phone performs smoothly without any signs of lag. In the gaming department, the device can handle any game thrown at it.
MicroSD Card and Memory Support
There is no option for a micro SD Card, but it will not be missed as the device comes with 64GB of inbuilt storage memory.
User Interface and Android Operating system
Aiding the Hardware is the impressively responsive MIUI. The Mi Note pro gets Android 5.0.1 Lollipop with MiUi 6.0 user interface on top. As usual, all the icons are placed on the screen panels and there is no app drawer. You also get various customizations and themes. There is also a one-handed mode, which can be turned on from the settings. The screen can be shrunk to a configurable size by swiping left or right on the home button.
3000 mAh Massive Battery
A non-removable 3000mAh battery powers the phone. The battery can last you a good two days on a full charge with moderate usage. On top of that is the phone also has quick charging capabilities.
4K Video Recording and Dual LED flash Camera
The Mi Note pro features a 13MP main camera with optical image stabilisation and dual LED flash. The front camera is at 4MP. The image output of the camera produces some good results. Picture colours are vivid and carry sufficient details too. You do not have to worry the images being blurry when you zoom in. Under low light conditions, the noise is kept under check, but at the cost of having softer details.
The front camera thanks to a large sensor is able to capture good and detailed images even in low light conditions. However, photos with scenery in the background will seem to be a little blurry since the camera seems to prioritise the foreground shots.
According to the current trend, 4K video recording is a necessary feature on a flagship phone. With the Mi Note Pro, Xiaomi for the first time presents a phone with 4K camera recording ability. Use this phone like a professional DSLR to record 4K and FHD videos at 30 frames per second. The video quality is such you can even use that for commercial purpose. Trusting Xiaomi’s 4K recording over a DSLR for a big event will not be a wrong decision.
The output quality is great for both modes – 4K and 1080P. However, In spite of dual LED flash, you will have to ensure adequate lighting either artificial or natural for a perfect shoot. In the case of low light ambience, shooting the video can end up a bit too dark.
