In this exclusive budget smartphones review article – presenting four good quality multitasking smartphones. Out of four, one device is a brand new Lava smartphone supports Indian 4G LTE. This phone has all the mighty features to give tough competition to Micromax Yureka. This article can help you choose the best smartphone in low budget essentially under 11000 Rupees.
Acer Liquid E700 ( A Triple SIM Smartphone)
Last year, Acer entered mobile phone market with its two android smartphones: Liquid E700 and Liquid Jade. Despite being Acer Liquid Jade a budget phone all the attraction is on Acer Liquid E700. And, priced at Rs. 10,456 this has been giving a tough competition to Moto G. In fact, Acer has tried to include even those features that we generally do not see in this price range.
Unibody Premium Design
The moment you take this phone out of the box, you will fall in love with its premium look. It has got a compact and uni-body design, which means the battery is non-removable. At the front, you will find a camera with LED flash on the top. Speakers at the top and bottom give this phone a nice harmony. But be on alert here as the speaker at the top is only for calling purpose.
It has got a power lock button at the top with a 3.5mm jack adjacent to it, but don’t worry as the micro USB port and the volume rockers are located on the right side. At the back, the rear camera and a specially included multi-function button below it give this phone a unique look.
MediaTek Processor with 1GB RAM
Acer Liquid E700 comes packed with a MediaTek MT6582 chip-set, which takes power from a quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex A-7 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. The Mali-400MP2 GPU manages to give this phone nice graphic performance. If you are a traveler and want to buy a phone that you can use around the world, then Acer Liquid E700’s quad-band support will not disappoint you. Moreover, this phone supports up to 3 SIM cards (all support 3G network).
On the storage side you get a 16GB internal memory with an option to expand it to 32 GB via microSD card.
If you are worried about the battery, then do not as this phone packs a giant 3500 mAh battery inside that gives up to 24 hours of talk time.
You also get all the add-ons like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, Accelerometer, Proximity sensor with this phone.
The back button that I mentioned above can be used to assign different tasks like open a certain app or the camera.
5-inch HD Display
With a 5-inch 720×1280 pixel display, your images and videos will look much crispier than ever. This resolution has become a standard these days as its competitors like Moto G also feature the same resolution. But what Acer Liquid E700 lacks is the presence of Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The viewing angles are also nice.
8MP and 2MP Camera:
A 8 MP camera with an LED flash at the back gives sharp and detailed images. Though the color looks a little distorted, but its manageable. At the front, you get a 2 MP camera, but here the Acer has surprised people with the presence of an LED flash. And, selfie lovers might love it.
You do get Android Kitkat 4.4.2 on this phone, but the customizations that Acer has made might ruin all the experience. The skin is heavily loaded with useless customizations that make the interface leggy. Even the camera interface is not as good as I thought it would. More often you will not get the perfect response that you would want.
So should you buy it?
Good display resolution, fast processor, two decent cameras each featuring LED flash and a customizable button at the back really make this phone special. However, the heavy skin and the absence of display protection might make some users think before they buy it.
It is a nice phone with some cons, but remember that every phone in the world definitely has some cons. But what makes this phone attractive is the price. It is cheaper than THE Moto G and other phones with THE same hardware specs.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo
Samsung quietly launched the Galaxy Grand Neo last year and you can understand why when you hold this phone in your hand. Even if it is a successor device, the old Galaxy Grand still feels better. Further, Samsung has made some improvements in the Grand Neo. This smartphone features a redesigned back with matte finish that makes it easy to hold it without dropping. However, the shape of the phone remains the same. The rear camera is still carved out in between the speaker and LED flash.
On the front, you will find proximity sensor at the top with a front facing camera adjacent to it. The bottom has the same old Samsung style capacitive buttons with click able button in the center. The power button is on the right side and volume rockers are on the left.
Quad Core Processor and One GB RAM
The Galaxy Grand Neo comes packed with a Broadcom BCM23550 chip-set and a Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 coupled with a 1GB of RAM. You get 8/16GB internal space with an option to increase it up to 64GB via microSD card.
It is a dual SIM phone with both SIMs supporting the 3G network. More connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS and micro USB. On the sensor side, the list includes accelerometer, proximity sensor and compass.
The phone is powered by a 2100mAh that will give you a decent screen on time.
5-inch 480P Display
There is not much special about Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo-display. The 5 inch 480×800 pixel screen will give ppi of only 186 pixels. Graphics might look distorted and pixilated. With this resolution, you will even not get a good video watching experience.
But the viewing angles and color reproduction of this phone are good. Its touch sensor is also very much responsive.
This phone features a 5MP rear camera that gives decent images. It can record up to 720P videos. On the other hand, the front VGA camera is not up to the par. The camera interface is pretty much same as can be found in any other Samsung phone.
If you want a phone with a good camera, then this phone is not for you. There are many other budget phones available from Motorola, Micromax and various other companies that pack at least 8 MP rear camera and 2 MP front facing one.
Software and UI
The standard variant of Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo runs on Android 4.4.2 Jellybean, but if you have got the GT-I9060I model, then you are lucky and will get Kitkat 4.4.4 update. But still when many of budget devices are getting lollipop update these days, this device will not impress many. The Samsung has always lagged behind many manufacturers when it comes to giving major android updates to its devices post-purchase.
Motion UI makes the interface a bit user-friendly and gives this phone an extra edge. Many great features such as smart stay and one hand gestures will not let you feel that bad about buying this phone. However, the preloaded apps and the OS really take lot of space. The 8GB version has only 5GB of user available space.
|SIM||Dual, MiniSIM, GSM, 3G+2G|

Lava Iris X8 (Micromax Yureka Competitor)
Indian brand Lava has always impressed us with its sleek and stylish phones from the Iris series and so does the Iris X8. Announced in January this year, the phone features real cool specs. Though from the looks, it may seem like a stretched iPhone 4, but its compactness has impressed many.
On the front, it features capacitive touch sensitive keys at the bottom without backlit. The proximity and light sensors are on the left side of the speaker while the front-facing camera is on the right. Power key and the volume rockers are on the right of the phone leaving the left side clean.
On the back, you will find the rear camera with LED flash with placement at top right. The Iris X8 logo at the center really gives this phone a premium look. The speaker is located at the bottom, this makes muffling of sound possible when the phone is placed on a flat surface.
CPU with Octa Core Processor and 2GB RAM
Lava Iris X8 comes packed with an Octa-core 1.4 GHz Cortex A7 processor. It features a 16 GB internal space with a 2 GB of RAM. These specs are enough to run any game smoothly and without dropping frames.
Communication features include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS, FM radio and micro USB port.
The 2500 mAh battery will make sure that you can make it till the end of the day with your phone.
8MP Camera with BSI Sensor
Lava Iris X8 features a 8MP camera at the back. This camera is equipped with really cool features like HDR and BSI sensor. The low light images appear crisp, but without much detailing. However, the normal light images were detailed and with no color distortion.
The 3 MP front camera also clicks nice Selfies with great level of detail. Also, the camera software is full of utilities. You can shift to HDR mode with just a tap. An integrated QR code scanning tool is also available that generally everyone wants on his phone.
5inch 720P IPS Display
The 5 inch HD IPS screen with a pixel density of 294 PPI promises a sharp and bright experience. Color distortions from the sides are minimal.
Lava has protected the display of this phone with Dragon Trail Glass that makes sure that you do not get scratches easily. I would have preferred Corning Gorilla Glass protection, though.
Software and UI:
Lava Iris X8 runs Android 4.4 Kitkat out of the box. But the Indian smartphone maker has promised Lollipop 5.0.1 update soon through FOTA. On this phone, Lava has made minimal to no changes in the stock Android experience. This has resulted in a smooth and lag free interface.
Currently, the Lava Iris X8 is available for Rs. 8999 in online malls. This price point makes it the best device in this price range. However, I would have preferred a phone with white or black sides as the plastic that many companies use gets eroded with time.
|SIM||Dual, RegularSIM, GSM, 3G+2G|
|OS||Android Kitkat 4.4.2, Upgradable to 5.0.1|
|Screen||5 Inches, HD, Dragon Trail Glass|
|Processor||1.4 GHz Octa Core MediaTek|
|Memory||1/2GB RAM, 8/16GB Memory, 32GB Card Support|
|Camera||8 MP[P], 3 MP[F], 720P Recording|
|Body||8. 6 mm [Th], 160 Gram [W]|
|Connectivity||BT4, Wi-Fi, USB 2.0, GPS, 4 Sensors, FM|
Xolo LT2000 – Smartphone with Indian 4G Support and Yureka Rival
Beginning of this year, Xolo announced another member of its LT family, the Xolo LT2000. The smartphone packs some very powerful features and is priced just Rs. 9999. A sleek design, a 64 chip-set and 4G connectivity are some of the features that it teases. To know more about this phone let’s go into detail.
With 7.8 mm thickness, the Xolo LT2000 comes in an alternative combination of grey and brown colors. On the back, it features a curved and sliced design to easily fit in the hand. The camera at the center with LED flash below gives a nice touch to the beauty of the phone. And, the XOLO logo at the center just adds to that beauty. Though the speaker, at the bottom, might result in muffled sound; when put on a flat surface.
Snapdragon Processor with 1GB RAM
Xolo LT2000 houses a powerful 64 bit Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chip-set that is powered by a Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex A53 processor paired with 1GB of RAM. As far as the storage is concerned, you will get a 8 GB of internal space that can be expanded up to 32 GB with a microSD card.
Its main attraction is the 4G connectivity that it provides. It has a dual-SIM support, but only one SIM is LTE supported, the other SIM supports 3G though. Other connectivity support includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, FM radio and microUSB port.
It is powered by a massive 2920 mAh battery that promises up to 693 hours of standby and more than 17 hours of talk time on 3G.
Low Pixel Density in Display is Good for Battery
Though it has got a HD IPS screen, but the 5.5-inch display size makes it only possible to have a pixel density of 267 pixels. But this much pixel density is not that much low and it will give a nice experience to the users.
Like Lava Iris X8, Xolo LT2000 also features a Dragon Trail Glass protection to protect the display from getting scratches. One reason behind choosing this protection instead of Corning Gorilla Glass can be a tight budget.
8MP Camera with a Sensor
A 8MP camera at the rear tagged with features like BSI II Sensor, Scene Detection and Tuning, HDR and Geo-tagging will give you a nice experience. Because of the BSI sensor, this phone will be able to click nice shots in low light also. Even its 2MP camera at the front will be great for shooting decent Selfies and doing video calls to friends.
Software and UI
Xolo LT2000 runs Android 4.4 Kitkat out of the box, however, Lollipop update is being promised by the manufacturer. With the specs that this phone comes packed, you will not feel any lag or gittering while operating this phone.
The Xolo has done a really great job by launching a smartphone that has a 64 Bit chip set and supports Indian 4G connectivity. This phone will give a tough competition to Micromax Yureka Yu.
But there are few things that I wanted from Xolo in this phone. Instead of HD screen, Xolo LT2000 should have featured a full HD screen and if that was not possible then Xolo should have limited the screen size to 5 inches only. It would have been better if this phone was coming with Lollipop 5.0 preloaded.
|SIM||Dual, MicroSIM, GSM, 4G+3G/2G|
|OS||Android Kitkat 4.4.2, Upgradable to Lollipop|
|Screen||5.5 Inches, 720×1280 Pixels, 267 PPI|
|Processor||1.2 GHz Quad Core Snapdragon 410|
|Memory||1GB RAM, 8GB Memory, 32GB Card Support|
|Camera||8 MP[P], 2 MP[F], 1080P Recording|
|Body||9.3 mm [Th]|
|Connectivity||4G, BT4, Wi-Fi, USB 2.0, GPS, 3 Sensors, FM|
