Asus Zenfone Max ZC550KL Display

Asus Zenfone Max ZC550KL

Among all the leading smartphone brands in India, Asus had launched more smartphones and their variants in the year 2015. In fact, it had introduced some innovative smartphones at every price point. However, the way Asus wanted to grab the market that had not happened. This makes us believe, there was something wrong either with Asus marketing or with devices, which halted the sales.

We have reviewed most of the phones launched by Asus so far and found them to be a perfect choice for budget customers. Our observation says, despite many launches in the year 2015 Asus did not succeed because most of its smartphones were available above10000 rupees. However, the fact is the Indian smartphone market has been dominated by smartphones available below 10000 rupees.

Asus takes customer reviews quite seriously. In the coming week, the brand is planning to release another phone in India that will be called as Zenfone Max ZC550KL.

I have to say that Asus has addressed many problems that users faced with other Zenfone series smartphones. Currently, this device is available for purchase at Amazon India & Flipkart for a price of 9999 rupees.Asus Zenfone Max ZC550KL Built and Design

Improved Design

Chinese brand Asus is known to paint its products with attractive looking colors. All the Zenfone series smartphones that were launched last year belonged to the same ideology. But those devices were not comfortable in use because of the top position of the power button. With the Zenfone Max, the manufacturer has tried to change that story.

Both power button and volume rockers have been placed on the left side of this device. This new smartphone is also much easier to hold and use with a single hand. The build materials that Asus has used in the making are also of good quality. Its back panel is removable, which is another good thing considering the present trend that every other smartphone brand is adopting.

Gorgeous Display

For the price, this phone is going to be an amazing deal. On it, you are getting a 5.5-inch display panel that offers a resolution of 1280 X 720 pixels. The pixel density of 267 PPI makes everything sharp. The IPS technology helps in improving the color reproduction as well as the contrast ratio. You will certainly enjoy watching movies and playing games on this huge display.

Moreover, the manufacturer has shielded the display of this smartphone with the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which is much stronger than the last generation. But I would still recommend that you to use a screen guard because this protective layer is still not strong enough to resist scratches resulting from materials like concrete.

Personalized User Interface

The Zenfone Max will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop right out of the box. There is no word from the manufacturer on whether this smartphone will be receiving the marshmallow update or not. This phone also runs ZenUI on top of the OS. This time around, Asus has tried to make the whole interface a little more personalized. You get to modify many elements, which is really a good thing. Extra features like ZenMotion and Creative Studio are expected to enhance the experience of the users.

Massive Battery

Now it is time to discuss the main USP of this smartphone. On the back, it features a super massive 5000 mAh battery. It can pack so much juice that you will not need to use the charger for at least two days. On moderate usage, this phone gives about 10-12 hours of screen on time. Another unique feature of the Zenfone Max is that it also acts as a power bank for other portable devices.

However, there is a catch. A battery this huge will need more than 4 hours to get fully charged. My advice would be to attach the phone to a charger before you go to bed and leave it there for all night.Asus Zenfone Max ZC550KL Review and Specifications

Impressive Performance

Instead of believing on manufacturers like Intel and MediaTek, Asus has used a Qualcomm motherboard on the Zenfone Max. Under the hood, it features Snapdragon 410 chipset that comes paired with a Cortex-A53 quad-core CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz. The 2GB o RAM is supposed to provide enough memory for all the background apps to run flawlessly. The good thing is that this chipset supports 64bit processing and will certainly take the experience of the users to next level. It also features Adreno 305 GPU that handles all the graphics without any problem.

Onboard storage of 16 GB should be enough for all types of usage. This phone also supports microSD card of up to 128 GB.

13MP Shooter with Laser Autofocus

The Zenfone Max is one of the few affordable smartphones that offer laser autofocus system. It takes only 0.3 seconds for this technology to focus on the subject. The 13MP primary shooter captures stunning photographs by using the Pixel Master 2.0 technology. Dual tone LED flash helps a lot in dark situations. You will be able to record full HD videos at 30 frames per second.

Its front 5MP camera is no less surprising. It is equipped with a wide-angle lens that covers about 85-degree of the view field. The users can also use the vertical panorama feature to fit more details in the frame.

Indian 4G LTE Support

Interestingly, this smartphone supports most of the Indian 4G bands. You will not face any kind of connectivity problem. The end users are also getting two SIM card slots on this phone.

  • Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection
  • HD display
  • Power button and volume rockers have been positioned at a user-friendly place
  • Leather finish of the back panel offers a comfortable grip
  • 64bit Snapdragon chipset
  • 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of onboard storage
  • 13 MP primary camera with laser autofocus system
  • Wide angle front camera
  • Massive 5000 mAh battery
  • Also works as a power bank

  • ZenUI can be hard to get used to

In my opinion, the Asus Zenfone Max will give a tough competition to the other players in the budget segment of the market. The most surprising is its capability to act as a power bank. You can charge other portable devices on this phone.

Additionally, its battery will easily last for power about two days on a single charge. Asus has also done a great job by placing the power button on the side. This phone is much comfortable and offers a nice grip in the hand, too. Now you will not have use another hand in order to lock the screen.Asus Zenfone Max ZC550KL Display

Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime

Xiaomi entered India market just 18 months back and since then it has been dominating the industry with many innovative gadgets at all price points almost. The key of Xiaomi’s success in India tech market is best-in-class hardware at much cheaper price.

In the beginning, Xiaomi used Flipkart’s e-retail channel for a unique flash sale, which caught everyone’s attention. Yes, Xiaomi benefited from Flipkart’s reputation. Arrogant Samsung, Flipkart’s trust, innovative products, and low price tag are a few key factors behind the mega success of this Chinese cum now Indian brand.

The Redmi Note Prime is exclusively available at You cannot buy it at a local smartphone shop since Amazon India holds the exclusive right for its retailing in the Indian market. So far, Xiaomi has not made it offline available.Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime Price Online in India

The phone is based on the Xiaomi’s upgraded user interface the MIUI and boots on Android Kitkat 4.4. This indicates to one major concern that the phone is not the very latest in terms of software onboard. From the Kitkat 4.4 onwards, Android mobile operating system has become compatible with 64-bit architecture, so not much difference in terms of using resources onboard. However, I do agree, the phone is outdated so it reflects Xiaomi’s attitude as bad as Samsung.

Built and Design

The Redmi Note 2 and the Note Prime is mostly resembles except the support for Indian 4G LTE and increased battery fuel. It comes in a premium plastic shell yet looks solid and appealing due to glossy finish all across. Xiaomi has made the phone available in India only in the white option.

I would like to explain more about the placement of buttons. Much like any other android smartphones, the Xiaomi device also has all the buttons and ports at the right place. Power and Volume buttons are on the right whereas a 3.5mm audio jack on the top and the micro-USB port at the bottom of this phone.

This is a dual SIM smartphone supports Indian 4G LTE network that too in dual standby mode.

Phablet Screen in HD Quality

The Xiaomi Redmi Note comes with a remarkable screen measured in 5.5-inch and has an IPS LCD panel with HD resolution. The on-screen pixel density of 267PPI is perfect. In fact, I would go a step further stating that the display is more realistic and adequate for a midrange heavy-duty smartphone.

You should know a human eye could not recognize pixel death above 294 PPI. Therefore, having a high pixel density in a display is useless and results in very low active screen battery backup.

The super 5.5-inch IPS LCD display lets you enjoy HD videos, playing action games, and reading web contents. Everything looks crisp and clear on the HD screen of the Note prime.

2G RAM and 64-bit Snapdragon Processor

The phone handles multitasking and hard gaming request really well thanks to a highly trusted Snapdragon 410 chipset in the CPU architecture. This is a 64-bit ecosystem, trusted by hundreds of midrange smartphone for most reliable performance. Just to add here the new set of 4G smartphones trust Snapdragon 610 chipset for the highest level of reliability.

The hardware is powerful and guarantees lag-less performance to the end users. Adreno 306 graphic processor and 2GB RAM along with Snapdragon quad-core processor completes the CPU in the Redmi Note Prime.

13MP 5MP and CMOS Sensor

Trust me, in terms of the camera performance, the Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime is one of the finest smartphones below 8500 rupees. If a Micromax smartphone can be a better shooter due to a dedicated camera sensor onboard, then imagine how well a Xiaomi’s smartphone will performance with a powerful 13MP (28mm wide-angle lens) rear shooter in the support of a CMOS image sensor.

As you can trust the 13MP primary camera for a real FHD (1080P) video recording, the same is true with the 5MP selfie shooter. Backed by a wide-angle lens, the Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime is a perfect smartphone for a better selfie, HD video calling, and a panorama shot.

3100 mAh Battery

The Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime includes Lithium polymer 3100 mAh battery ensuring a daylong high performance to the users. It also has a (semi)fast charging feature. The processor, when coupled with new custom Xiaomi’s user interface saves battery making it a power efficient device.

The device offers dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 for high-speed data sharing. Since it is a 4G smartphone, you will be able to use Reliance Jio, Aircel, and Airtel 4G SIM cards.Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime Review and Specifications

  1. Real value for money
  2. Indian 4G LTE dual SIM support
  3. 64-bit Snapdragon 410 Processor
  4. Excellent 13MP camera with CMOS sensor
  5. 3100 mAh powerful battery
  6. 2GB RAM and 16GB Memory

Final Verdict

For a price of 8500 rupees, the Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime is a real value for money and certainly a very good choice. I would have suggested you buy this phone, but the recent launch of Coolpad Note 3 Lite at just 7000 rupees has changed the market reality. Although the Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime is one fine gadget below 9000 rupees but the Coolpad Note 3 lite is much better and cheaper smartphone today.
