Micromax is not just a regular smartphone company rather a brand, which delivers quality, innovation and affordability. I am making comment because I am also a customer of this brand, which does the best in fact more than the rest of brands in budget smartphone segment.
I am aware there is users backlash against Micromax for poor quality, but we cannot miss affordability aspect that comes, despite high-end specifications. Above all we miss a critical fact that Micromax does product designing in India where finding skilled smartphone programmer and engineer is tough task. I am amazed that in spite of global boom, Indian engineering syllabus do not have faculty for nano technology.
We Indian does excellent in mechanical engineering that is why top car company own R&D lab in India. However, mobile phone, which is considered nano IT and communication engineering still not spotted by Indian students as a stable career.
Infocus is a good example how skilled personnel affect product development. In spite of being a new brand it offers better product because it can hire good talent in US on affordable package.
Ex-Google CEO Eric Schmidt once said the Google brand will never fail because it invests in new technology that will help public to live life in better way. In fact, Micromax seems to be following the new mantra of innovation to maintain its leadership position. I am not surprised for the fact that Micromax is investing in R&D to transform it’s identify from a copy paste brand to a concept brand, which does research and development to bring out innovative gadgets on affordable price.
Particularly this year, Micromax has unveiled many gadgets that should be considered “Leek se Hatake”. In this article, we are presenting six innovative smartphones by Micromax available for a price range of 5000 to 15000 rupees. Read also 5 Latest Smartphones with Strong Battery Backup.
Q450 Micromax Canvas Sliver 5 @ 15000 Rupees
Micromax has just launched a new addition to the Canvas family, the Sliver 5, which even got ‘The Wolverine’ Hugh Jackman excited, as the company claims it to be the world’s thinnest smartphone so far.
With the phone being just 5.1-mm thick from edge to edge it already beats Gionee Elife S5.1 (5.15 mm) and also Vivo X5 Max (4.75 mm). The Oppo R5 (4.85mm) is incredible thinness but have protruding camera lens at the back which takes their thickness if measured from edge to edge to be somewhere around 6.9mm, unlike the Canvas Sliver 5, which has an all-flat design.
Not only being the thinnest phone in the market, the Silver 5 is incredibly lightweight at just 97g. The phone is priced around 15000 rupees at Flipkart also it has been made available on all online and offline channels.
Furthermore, the company is promising a very compelling after sale service with the phone, “M! ON-SITE CARE” much like what has been promised with the ‘Canvas Knight 2’. Customers facing problems can log on to the Micromax website and request a doorstep pickup, along with the guarantee of either repair or replacement within a week.
Design: The phone is definitely a killer in the design department. It is an eye catcher and has the looks of a top quality premium smartphone. The phone being just 5.1mm thin is available in two color options black and Champaign white. An aircraft grade aluminum bezel surround on the sides, which offer a nice look and robust feel and also play a vital role in the lightweight of the phone. On the right side, you can find the power button and SIM card (nano-SIM) slot, while on the left are the volume rockers. The 3.5mm headphone jack and micro USB port are placed on the bottom and really show how slim the phone is, as the headphone jack takes up most of the bottom area. The 4.8’ display is protected by Corning gorilla glass 3 protection, which can also be found on the back.
Display: The Micromax Sliver 5 sports a 4.8’ inch HD AMOLED display, with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels and 306 PPI pixel density. With every other smartphone manufacturer jumping on to large screen displays with 5.5’ inch or more, the 4.8’ inch display is a welcome change and feels appropriate to hold in hand. The display not being full HD is a definite letdown. The phone brightness when used outdoors is a tad low, but otherwise the display is pretty neat and vibrant.
Camera& Battery: The Canvas Sliver 5 comes with an 8MP auto-focus rear camera with LED Flash and Sony IMX219 CMOS sensor as well as ‘Blue Glass’ filter. It also includes a 5MP front facing camera. The rear camera can record 1080p videos at 30fps. The rear camera offers sharp, bright and vibrant images with attention to detail in well light environment, it does produce decent images in low lighting as well, with minimum noise.
The phone comes with a 2000-mAh battery, which is slightly low as we would have like to see at least a 2800 mAh battery, but guess the company had to maintain its slim & lightweight design. But the battery is able to provide a day’s backup with light to moderate usage as per company claims.
Hardware & OS: The Canvas Sliver 5 is powered by a 64-bit 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor along with 2 GB DDR3 RAM and Adreno 306 GPU. It will offer you smooth performance without any significant lag and various games can be played on the device without any issues. Also, no heating issues were found on the device while trying out various resources intensive apps and games though the device might get slightly warm over prolong hours of gaming, which is quite normal and nothing alarming. On the AnTuTU Benchmark the phones scored ‘21131’ which is not bad but probably means that you should play HD games such as Mortal Combat or Asphalt 8 on low graphic settings.
The phone includes an internal memory of 16GB without an option for expandable storage. This might be a deal breaker for many, as there is no 32 GB version. The user memory available on the phone will be around 11.3 GB.
Supporting the hardware will be Android’s latest offering Android 5.0.2 (Android Lollipop) which Micromax has done very few tweaking to and feels almost stock Android, thus providing a fast and vibrant interface.
Final Verdict: The phone is definitely well-designed, looks appealing and premium, and you might feel as if you are carrying nothing when you place it in pocket owing to its light 97g weight. But it only has 16GB of storage capacity. Micromax chose to sacrifice the Micro-SD slot and Dual SIM slot in order to maintain the thinness of the handset. The phone’s hardware is pretty decent for a budget phone but at the price tag of the phone we would have expected a little more under the hood.

Micromax is expanding its portfolio of smartphones at rapid pace and has just launched a new smartphone the ‘Micromax Canvas 3 E455’. The company is trying to target this as a budget 4G smartphone and hence the phone is also being referred to as the ‘Canvas Nitro 4G’. The Smartphone is priced attractively at INR. 10999. With a 5” inch display and Octa-core processor, the phone looks pretty impressive on paper and is bound to offer some stiff competition.
Display& Design: The phone includes a 5” inch HD IPS LCD display with 1280×720 pixel resolution. The screen offers a rich and vibrant viewing experience, but a missing full HD display is a negative as various smartphones are available in the same price bracket including, Lenovo K3 Note as well Yu Yureka, among others that offer a full HD display.
The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection along with the Oleophobic coating, which we saw in the previous generation of the ‘Canvas Nitro’ series, which will keep your screen smudge free.
In the design department the phone looks pretty standard with a complete plastic body and two thin metallic bands running on the side. The volume rocker and power keys lie on the right side, with nothing on the left side of the phone. The USB port and speakers take up the bottom side of the phone while the 3.5-mm headphone jack rests on the top.
Hardware: Under the hood of the ‘Canvas Nitro 4G’ is a 1.4Ghz Snapdragon 415 Octa-core processor running the show, paired along with 2GB LPDDR3 RAM with built in storage of 16GB that can be expanded up to 32 GB via a micro SD card. The Octa-core Snapdragon 415 processor is bound to give you seamless multi-tasking and a smooth lag free UI experience, but you might have to lower the graphics while trying to play some HD games.
The Canvas Nitro 4G is dual SIM (GSM+LTE) handset and along with Indian 4G support it also includes Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, Micro-USB, and 3.5 audio jack connectivity options.
On the software end it runs the latest Android OS, Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out of the box. User will have a close to stock android experience, which is a nice thing to keep usability simple.
Camera & Battery: Micromax has kept the camera specifications similar to what we saw in the previous generation of the ‘Canvas Nitro’ with a 13MP rear auto focus camera with dual LED flash along and a 5MP front facing camera.
The camera as we had seen in the previous generation really lived up to the expectations and you can expect clear and vibrant images both from the front and rear camera, along various software features to help you click better images.
The Micromax Nitro 3 houses 2500 mAh battery, which the company claims can last you an entire day with moderate usage.
Final Verdict: Micromax is aggressively expanding its portfolio in order to provide stiff competition to every budget smartphone makers. In budget smartphone category at one point Micromax was the only strong player having launched almost 35 different models since 2014.
The Canvas Nitro 3 or Nitro 4G is similar to its predecessor in every sense having just the added LTE connectivity option to keep them apart. The phone does have a strong hardware as well as camera going for it. However, the average Joe design and missing full HD resolution might deter some, as there are strong competitors growing in the same price bracket. If these small details don’t concern you than the Micromax Canvas 4G is definitely worth a look. Read also Top smartphones with good battery life under 7000 Rupees.

AQ5000 Micromax Canvas Hue @ 9000 Rupees
The Hue with mammoth battery was launch to counter the rising popularity of Gionee Marathon Series. However, this phone owns reputation more than being a battery-oriented device. We consider its innovative credential since it does have rare features hardly witnessed in Micromax gadgets.
In spite of the Hue is limited to only Android Kitkat operating system, the truth of close to stock android indeed endearing to the end users. Get the feel of AMOLED display engine that offers clarity razor sharp whether you are indoor or outdoor under harsh sunlight. USB OTG support works without any additional software offers hassle free media play or a solution for additional storage. In fact, user can play contents right from the temporary OTG storage in utmost quality. A display is nothing without care and protection. I am sure Corning gorilla glass 3 should be sufficient to scratch or sudden strike protection.

Hardware & Processor: The Canvas Selfie Lens is powered by a 1.3GHz Quad core processor powered by MediaTek MT6582 chipset, along with 1 GB DDR3 RAM. The internal storage space on the device is 8GB which can be expanded upto 32GB using a micro SD card. This is a dual SIM phone with GSM/HSPA capabilities but there is no LTE support which might be a letdown for many customers as LTE enabled phones are now available in the market in this price bracket. The phone comes with Android 5.0 (Lollipop) out of the box and Micromax has kept the Stock Android UI without much tweaks.
Display & Battery: The handset has a 5.0 inch IPS Display with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and a 294 ppi index. Counter to Karbonn MachFive and Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime, Micromax has the Xpress 2 with mouth watering specifications available exclusively at Flipkart. The sales price of 5999 rupees making it hot potato rated “more than perfect” by many tech pundits.
The latest Octa core chipset of MediaTek along with the latest Mali 450 MP4 graphic processor gets harmony from 1GB RAM for immaculate delivery at multitasking and multimedia front. 2500 mAh battery along with 5 inch HD display, which has Corning gorilla glass belt, is right amount of ingredient to make a grand Indian Thali by none other than Indian brand Micromax.
The Xpress E313 does even better in terms of camera that is featured here as 13MP rear sensor and 2MP front shooter. It runs on Android Lollipop that means users are in sync with current OS trend. Quad Core MediaTek 6582M chipset has proven record joins Mali 400 MP2 graphic processor and 1GB RAM for hang-free performance.
User like me will find 8GB ROM too much to consume. But the brand goes step further in sugar-coating, in fact pushing for the best memory management in this phone. The Spark lists SD card support upto 32GB and OTG storage as and when needed.
Can anyone criticize a 4999 rupees gadget, which lists 8MP primary and 2MP front facing camera enlightened by features like HD recording, ISO control, touch to focus and continues shooting?
