Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth 2

When it comes to budget devices, the Chinese electronic giant Huawei lags behind no other brand. Last year it launched the Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth 2 at a price tag of 12,980 INR. But you can easily get this device for 7899 INR from Flipkart.

Design and Display:

The metal clad back and wide bezels make this device look very premium. The 7-inch screen features a display resolution of 1024 X 600 that gives this device pixel density of 170 PPI. Considering the other tablets like Nexus 7 that features display resolution of 1280 X 800 pixels, the low resolution of the Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth2 worsens the experience. The screen brightness feels good only when you are inside. The moment you go under the sun, it becomes very hard to see even the brightest object on the screen.

The huge 4100 mAh battery gives it about 12 hours of power backup.

This tablet features a 3MP camera at the back, but the quality of the shots will not be up to the mark. The front VGA camera is best suited for video calling only.

Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth 2 Review and Specifications

The Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth 2 runs Android 4.3 Jellybean out of the box. Huawei has made some improvement over the skin of Emotion UI 1.6, but the interface still feels much old. Also, with a single SIM card slot, it can support both 2G and 3G network on the following bands- GSM 850/900/1800/1900.

Oplus XONPAD 7

Even after one year of launch, the Oplus XONPAD 7 still has its reputation maintained. For those who don’t know about O Plus, it is a Taiwanese smartphone and tablet manufacturer that has recently got recognition in many countries. The Oplus XONPAD 7 Tablet is currently priced at 7,999 INR and features some great specs.

Design and Display:

As soon as you take this device out of the box you will be amazed to see the aesthetically carved metal back. The Matt finish of the body makes it fingerprint free and easy to hold with one hand. There are some extra buttons on the right side that you don’t usually see on a normal Android tablet. The loudspeaker is located at the bottom of the back due to which sound gets muffled sometimes.

Oplus XONPAD 7 Review and Specifications

The quality of 7-inch display is very great at this price point. The screen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels gives immersive gaming and movie watching experience.

Specifications and Performance:

The Oplus XONPAD 7 Tablet is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Cortex A7 processor coupled with a 1GB of RAM. You get 16 GB of internal storage out of which more than 12 GB is user available. You can also expand the storage up to 32 GB with an SD Card.

Further, in terms of camera, it sports a 5MP fixed focus camera at the back that really clicks nice pictures. But when it comes to low light imaging it produces lots of noise. The 2 MP front facing camera will give a decent experience of video calling.

As far as data network access or voice calling are concerned, this Oplus tablet supports only a single SIM Card, but you can use it on both 2G and 3G networks. The tablet also has the ability to make 3G voice calls.

The device is powered by a 3500 mAh battery that easily gives power backup of 1 day. And, it runs on Android and comes with KitKat 4.4 preloaded. When this device was launched it used to run Android Jellybean out of the box. Even though it sports a quad-core processor, the UI lags a lot.

Pros:

  1. The 7-inch 1280 X 800 pixel display gives a very immerse experience
  2. 16 GB of internal storage out of which more than 12 GB is user available

Lava QPAD R704

When every other brand is launching budget tablets with voice calling support, then how can LAVA lag behind? In October last year the Lava QPAD R704 Tablet was launched at the price tag of 8499 INR, but this number since then has been dropped to 7,799 INR. The tablet has been unsuccessful in getting attention of many because of its low end specifications, but the fact that it supports calling feature has maintained it in the race.

Display and Design:

The Lava QPAD R704 Tablet features a sturdy design and the metal back makes it look premium. I am disappointed though by the color composition that Lava has used in this tablet. The colors used on the polycarbonate shell should have been avoided.

Lava QPAD R704 Tablet Review and Specifications

The 7-inch display has got good viewing angles when compared to other tablets in the same segment. The colors look real and bright, but the screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels may ruin your movie watching experience.

Specifications and Performance:

The one thing that I found great on this tablet was its performance. The 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with the help of 1 GB of RAM handles every process that you throw on it easily. The Adreno 302 GPU which is clocked at 400 MHz makes the gaming experience very good. The tablet comes with a 8 GB of inbuilt storage that can be expanded up to 32 GB using a SD Card.

The Lava QPAD R704 Tablet sports a 2 MP Auto focus camera at the back that can take some cool quality shots. But the VGA camera on the front is only good for video calling.

The tablet houses a 3500 mAh battery inside, but the 7-inch display might drain all the power very fast. However, according to the company the tablet supports Qualcomm Quick Charge technology that makes charging the battery 30% fast.

On the connectivity front the tablet features a 2G SIM card slot (for calling purpose). For high speed internet you will have to depend on a Wi-Fi connection.

It runs Android 4.3 Jellybean out of the box, but you can easily upgrade it to KitKat 4.4 once the OTA update becomes available.

Pros:

  1. The display reproduces almost real colors
  2. The 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor makes the performance very smooth
  3. Auto focus rear camera
  4. Voice Calling is supported
Price 7800 Rupees

Lenovo A7-30 Tablet

Last year Lenovo launched a series budget tablets. It is in no doubt that the Chinese giant is taking every segment in the electronic industry very seriously. The Lenovo A7-30 Tablet was a serious attempt to attract customers who want a tablet with calling feature. Though it was priced at 9,990 INR at the time of launch, but in the succeeding months it fell to 5,999 INR.

Design and Display:

The Lenovo A7-30 Tablet features a 7-inch display, but with its wide bezels it may feel like a 10-inch one. Holding it in one hand might be a problem especially while making a call. But the same bezels that make this tablet so huge also improve the operating experience. It becomes difficult to operate a tablet with two hands if the bezels are very thin. Although the screen is packed with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels but the due to the size of the screen some graphics might get pixelated.

Specifications and Performance:

The MTK 8382 1.3 GHZ Quad Core Processor that comes coupled with 1 GB of RAM makes the processing fast and smooth. If you are a gaming geek, then the Mali 400-GP2 GPU will make sure that you get a lag free experience. You get 8GB of internal storage out of which only 6 GB is user available, but don’t worry as you can expand it to 32 GB with using a SD Card.

Lenovo A7-30 Tablet Review and Specifications

The Lenovo A7-30 Tablet supports one SIM card (2G) that you can use to make calls. If you want high speed internet, then you might have to depend on a Wi-Fi network. It packs a 3500 mAh battery that will give this tablet at least one day of usage.

At the back of the Lenovo A7-30 Tablet is a 2 MP camera which according to me is a big disappointment. But if you are into video calling, then the VGA camera at the front will take care of your needs.

The tablet comes loaded with Android 4.2 Jellybean, but you can upgrade it to KitKat after connecting this tablet to a high speed Wi-Fi connection.

Pros:

  1. The performance is great
  2. It features a solid design
  3. The sound quality is great because of the Dolby surround sound technology
  4. Supports voice calling

Cons:

  1. Although the display is bright, but the low pixel density ruins the experience

The Canvas Tab P470 is easily available for 5,899 INR.Voice calling and dual SIM support have made this tablet an attractive product among customers.

Display and Design:

The Micromax Canvas Tab P470 sports a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels. Display is bright, but the low pixel density of 170 PPI ruins the experience. Micromax has worked hard on its design as the bezels are wide on top and bottom making it easier to hold it in landscape position. At the back you will find that it takes inspiration from iPhone 6 that was launched in the late 2014. The Micromax Canvas Tab P470 is available in classy silver and mystic grey color options.

The rear camera records full HD videos with no problem. There is a 0.3 MP front facing camera, which proves to be good for making video calls.

The tablet comes with a dual SIM support that works on 3G network. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth and micro USB port for power and computer connectivity.
