In this review article, we are discussing some of good smartphones from popular brand Lava, Microsoft, and Micromax. These smartphones are good choice under the 9000 rupees budget category. I build a list of smartphones based on my personal assessment of the product, reviews of actual users online and opinions by tech experts spread across tech review websites. My effort is limited in helping readers to find a quality product.
Micromax Yu Yureka
Xiaomi Tsunami has shaken up many including the Micromax, holding prestigious no. 1 position in Indian market. Recent IDC report shows that the Indian brand is just step back than the Samsung as far as smartphone sales are concerned.
In recent past, Micromax has been launching no of smartphones with advanced specifications on affordable price. But, Indian’s homegrown brand failed to gain momentum against the Xiaomi sales boom which had started six months back. After the experience of horror from the Chinese brands, Micromax is ready to begin its story of 2015 with new dimension.
The Micromax Yureka is a best ever launched smartphone under price of 9000. Here, we are considering specifications and price as the benchmark criteria. This is to note here, the Yureka is available online, skipping offline sales. Micromax has done tie-up with Amazon Indian, which promises to deliver goods even in the interior part of India. I had ordered a book at Amazon, successfully delivered to my father in my native village. I am emphasizing the delivery issue to confirm that the order for Yureka smartphone at Amazon Indian can be placed from every corner of India. Micromax steps are absolutely right to make Yureka sales as successful as the PK movie 2015. Also, this is to consider here, Micromax India is planning for $500 million IPO and the launch of Yureka smartphone is seen in the light of IPO success.
The Yureka runs on new operating system platform with dedicated support, forum, drivers and Yureka Stores. In India, the sale of the Yureka will begin on 13th Jan 2015 via Amazon India platform. The smartphone is powered by brand new dual quad core (Octa Core) 64Bit CPU architecture. This processor has been uniquely designed by the Qualcomm to bring 64 bit computer architect on smartphone platform and take the support to 4G LTE network with high-speed video and live TV streaming.
Micromax has joined hand with CyanogenMod operating system – a customized Android operating system to bring the best of Android operating system. Yureka runs on CyanogenMod 11 which is an ultra modification of Android Kitkat 4.4.2. In the CyanogenMod operating system, privacy and data security has been given the highest priority. Theme of the operating system looks similar to stock Android with Blue background. All kinds of Android Apps are supported on this smartphone although you have a dedicated Yureka store. The CyanogenMod 12, based on Android Lollipop 5, is already out and the Yureka will have the same upgrade somewhere in mid February. With the purchase of Micromax Yureka, you can be sure for regular update in the operating system.
Though it is not new to have DDR3 RAM in a smartphone, but having the same in a 9000 rupees smartphone does look interesting. DDR3 RAM performs faster than DDR2 and another traditional RAM also lowest consumption of battery power. At Yureka smartphone, 2GB DDR3 RAM joins hand with 64 Bit Octa core processor to bring enormous processing power and less battery consumption in day to day digital life. Interestingly, the Yureka is stronger than my desktop in terms of processing power.
Like a large standard display, with 80 degree of viewing angle, Yureka’s 5.5 inches display has IPS panel and sports HD display with resolution measuring in 1280 by 720 Pixel under protection of Corning Gorilla Class 3. The display has pixel density of 267 PPI and has Oleophobic coating to protect from scratch; forceful touch and adding water resistance feature.
Yureka is packed with 13 MP primary and 5 MP front facing camera. For camera enhancement, there is Sony IMX 135 CMOS sensor, which by default boosts camera performance to better even in low-light. Photography becomes easy in Cyanogen OS as it offers easy image shooting or video recording even from locked screen. You can click some good pictures in fraction of second without even unlocking the screen. Surely, we cannot miss the support of FHD recording.
With 2500 mAh battery power, the Micromax Yureka offers 8 hours of talk time and 1 week of standby. It has up to 7 hours of browsing and 25 hours of music playback. With the awesomeness of built craft, the Micromax is promising 25 to 30% of less power consumption than a regular smartphone.
Having 4 sensors, the revolutionary smartphone Yureka bears 4G and 3G connectivity option. At 4G active network, download speed can zoom up to 150 MBPS whereas 3G network is limited at 21 MBPS only. Besides having 4G and 3G dual SIM, it has USB 2.0, 3.5 mm Headphone Jack, MicroSD card port, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0.
Micromax Yureka is one of the best smartphones launched so far under the price band of 10000 rupees. I would highly recommend the smartphone.

Microsoft Lumia 535
I am one big follower of Windows operating system. Also, I am great admirer of Microsoft effort to make computer so easy for general users. While Indian-born Satya Nadella took over Microsoft, he had two announcements in the first official press conference. The first Microsoft will have the same attention on smartphone as they have been giving to desktop or laptop. The second announcement was to concentrate on cloud business. Interestingly, Smartphone platform is ruled by Google and 80% of cloud computation is under the control of Amazon. So what left for Microsoft?
Nokia merger is seen to be aggressive Microsoft at smartphone platform. With the couple of launch under Nokia brand, Microsoft is coming out with some brilliant devices from the starting price of 5000 rupees to 49000 rupees.
The Lumia 535 is the first smartphone launched with Microsoft brand name. This is Microsoft Lumia 535, not the Nokia Lumia 535. This is an excellent piece of hardware, having positive appreciation online and a dedicated advertisement campaign to boost the sale. Fortunately, I am one proud user of the Microsoft Lumia 535.
The 535 is available in single and dual-SIM variants. In India, we have the smartphone in dual SIM with official price tag of 8999/-. Both SIMs are micro SIM and one of them is supposed to be 3G network optimized. The great thing about the Windows OS is, it has uniform experience throughout all platform and available devices. The Lumia 535 runs on Windows Blue 8.1 and will upgrade to upcoming releases of Windows.
It seems Microsoft isn’t doomed with Nokia believe that small screen is a best choice for customer. Its 5 inches screen sports qHD display with resolution of 960 × 540 Pixel and realistic 220 PPI pixel density. Microsoft has enhanced display with features such as Sunlight Readability, High Brightness Mode, Brightness Control, Scratch Resistant Glass and Sunlight Readability. The display has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection technology. Display is not as vivid as we find in a 10000 rupees Samsung smartphone. However, we know that Nokia or Microsoft is known to announce realistic specifications data. Though we miss Nokia’s clear black technology, but you won’t regret in having the smartphone at the current price of 9000 rupees.
Windows operating system is designed to work with low hardware resources. Therefore, having just Snapdragon 200 chipset with four core and clock speed of 1.2 GHz is not a big deal. There is Adreno 302 GPU and 1 GB RAM. Most of Lumia devices under 9000 rupees budget has 512 MB RAM. However, the Lumia 535 is optimized with 1 GB RAM, which is, in my view a welcome spec from Microsoft.
The Lumia 535 offers smooth experience, quick responsive touch and lag-free architecture. I regularly play games; do some Skype calling, Facebook chat and spend time in creating some damn good office presentations. My four days of experience with Lumia 535 has been great. Windows OS means no argument about lag or application delay or system crash.
I am not able to understand logic behind the camera designing. As far as a specification is concerned, it looks great for having 5 MP primary and 5 MP front facing camera. However, the primary camera is capable of recording max 480P video that is seriously impractical. Its front facing camera has more to offer in terms of clear selfie, low-light image shooting, and HD video calling and SKYPE chat as well.
Along with thousands of Nokia’s goodness, powerful battery backup is highly regarded. The Microsoft 535 has a 1905 mAh battery for long lasting smartphone experience on a single charge. Its Battery life is impressive and lasts for one and half days on medium usages.
Having less app in the Windows App store is no longer the case. Considering meaningful optimization of Windows and brilliance of Nokia craft by Microsoft has to be well-appreciated. The Microsoft Lumia 535 is one of the finest choices under 9000 rupees budget.

Lava Iris fuel 60
Yes. It is true. Lava is back with a new smartphone with 4000 mAh battery. If this is to be a trend, I can predict that the next fuel series smartphone will have 5000 mAh battery followed by a 6000 mAh battery powered smartphone after that. However, the continuation of the series deemed on the success of the Fuel 50 and Fuel 60 smartphone.
This phone is like a powerhouse of battery fuel. It has magnificent 4000 mAh battery that is fueling up the smartphone for 32 Hours of 2G and 13 hours of 3G talk time. 3G browsing is supported up to 12 hours and music listening goes up to 70 hours. The 4000 mAh battery, which is fully embedded means non-removable, requires roughly 3 hours of charging. Compared to other smartphones in the market, this is one of fast charging smartphone battery.
So, what is Lava has to offer, besides 4000 mAh battery in the Fuel 60?
The dual SIM smartphone accepts normal (Not Micro or Mini) SIM cards have network support for 3G and 2G. Under the calling option, it offers Conference call, Call Mute, Call recorder, do not disturb and notes during call options. As like other smartphone of Lava, buyers get a quality flip cover and screen guard in the sales box.
The fuel 60 runs on Android Kitkat 4.4.2 and upgradable to Android Lollipop 5.0.1. I like the idea of having stock android experience with Android interface. Lava has powered the device with quad core processor with clock speed of 1.3 GHz accompanied by 1 GB RAM.
Lava has given standard screen as it sports 5.0 inches HD display with IPS panel wherein the color limitation is 16.7 million and Pixel density is 294 PPI. For protection, there is corning gorilla class 3 and full Lamination for water resistance.
Lava and its subsidiary are known to be doing justice with Camera specification. The Fuel 60 features 10 MP primary camera with BSI-2 image sensor and Single LED flash. The rear camera is optimized to record Full HD videos and long distance shot with the help of given digital 4X zoom. Its secondary camera is 2 MP for selfie and 3G video calling. As far as the performance of primary camera is concerned, daylight shooting is quite impressive and comes out with natural colour and good details while ignoring sufficient background noise.
At the current selling price of 8888 rupees, the Lava Fuel 60 is one of the best choices for those, looking for a smartphone with good specifications and long lasting and strong battery power. We can’t say that the smartphone has something below the belt specs. This is one such cool smartphone with decent specifications, upgradable to Android Lollipop and extra ordinary battery power is available under 9000 rupees MRP.
