Top 5 Mobile Phones Under 13000 In India April 2015

LAVA ICON with IPS Display and Camera with Sony EXMOR Sensor

Indian Smartphone manufacturer, Lava International has released its premium smartphone targeted to the budget cautious consumers who demand value for their money. The phone is very beautiful to look at, but does its attractive price and striking outward appearance match to its internals? …let’s examine and you say.

The phone sports a 5” IPS capacitive touchscreen supporting up to 720p. With a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, the screen has a wide angle view that offers a stunning display even under direct sunlight. The Asahi Dragon- tail scratch resist glass offers exemplary protection for the sensitive screen.

Body and Design: The manufacturers have given the phone a premium look with a metallic unibody with the back having a ‘glass over metal’- like design. It is amazingly thin at just a 7.70 mm and weighing in at a mere 143 grams. Its breadth stands at 70.56 mm and height at 143.41 mm.

Lava Icon Review and Specifications

The only set back with the design is the back panel that has a glass- like interface. On regular usages, it collects fingerprints quickly and therefore forcing one to purchase a skin or a phone cover. It also looks fragile in terms of hardness.

The battery has a capacity of 2,500 mAh, which is non-removable and offers a talk time of around 9 hours over 3G networks.

Memory Storage and Performance of this Laval Smartphone

Lava has blessed it with an amazingly 2 GB of RAM, which is unusual for the price of the phone. Things even get better on the processing side with a quad-core MediaTek CPU each core clocked at 1.3GHz coupled up with a Mali-400 GPU to keep up with the stunning display.

The phone has a whopping 16 GB of internal storage. The end user is having a choice to beef if it up to 32GB with an included micro SD slot.

Camera: At the First glance, you can definitely tell, this is not an ordinary mid-range smartphone camera. It features a 13 MP camera with Sony’s EXMOR sensor and a 5- element lens. The f/2.0 takes amazing picture in low-lit conditions, and if that’s not good enough, the dual LED flash comes in handy. The camera has ability to record full HD videos of up to 1080p.

The front facing camera has a lot going on as well with a 5MP lens, f/2.4 aperture. It has a 4- element lens, which is an extremely well built camera. This is by far the best camera we’ve come across in a mid-range smartphone.

The software interface is simple and offers some useful extras such as Smile to Capture for the selfie lovers. With HDR, Panorama and Touch to focus feature, the beautification mode is also very well polished.

Connectivity Features of this Multimedia Smartphone

The phone allows 3G connectivity on both SIM(s) and makes available Wi-Fi connection with hotspot creation. A micro USB v2.0 is available for data syncing, fast charging and USB Tethering. Bluetooth v4.0 is on board for peripheral connection, A2DP technology for audio connections.

Sensors and Features: The phone has a ton load of features and extras. It has the standard Proximity Sensor, Accelerometer, an ambient light sensor and a BSI sensor.

Software: Lava’s Custom UI, star OS does a good job in keeping the hardware running on the top of Android 4.4.4 KitKat with promises of an upgrade to Lollipop. The interface has support for java content and applets.

The custom OS is very fast and offers some interesting extras. The most common being its easy customization and the gesture support, some of which work even when the screen turned off.

Microsoft Lumia 640 Dual SIM with 2500 mAh Battery

People criticized the Microsoft Lumia 535 because of its poor display and it seems that Microsoft heard it all. The giant that acquired Nokia is again back with a new budget level smartphone, the Lumia 640. Microsoft has tried to put all those features that were missing in the Lumia 535 in this phone.

A cute phone with an attractive display: No one ever questions the design of Lumia series and we all know the reason. The Lumia 640 is no different and it also features a great sense of aesthetics. The glossy finish looks nice, but also attracts fingerprints. It feels cute in the hand and you will not have to struggle to reach the distant corners of the screen.

Coming to the display, Microsoft has learned from its mistakes. The phone features a HD IPS 5-inch display that gives it a pixel density of 294 ppi. All the graphics appear crispy and you will not find any kind of color distortion from any angle. Not to mention the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 that really helps it from getting scratches.

Decent Camera with Full HD Recording

The Lumia phones have always performed great when it comes to optics. The Lumia 640 features an 8 MP shooter at the back that performs fantastic in the low light. The reason behind this is that this phone has got a bigger sensor (1/4 inches) and bigger sensor means better images. The camera can record 1080P FHD videos at 30 frames per second.

At the front, you get a 0.9 MP camera that can take nice selfies of you. I always say that you cannot judge a camera with its megapixels as the real difference is made by the sensor and the decoding technology behind the scenes.

Not that great when it comes to performance: It is not hidden from anyone that Windows phones always lag behind in terms of performance. The quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor might impress many, but you cannot do any hardcore processing with it.

The Microsoft has to understand one thing that in the fast moving digital world, if battle has to win against Android, then it has to offer something that Android phones do not offer under the 13000 Rupees budget.

The Adreno 305 handles graphic with ease to some extent, but you cannot expect to get a high level gaming experience. The phone performs well on average level games, but when you play games like Asphalt 8, you get to know the limitations of the GPU that it comes packed with.

The other disappointing thing can be the low space as it only features a 1GB of RAM and a 8 GB of internal storage. However, the good thing is that you can expand the internal storage up to 128 GB using a SD Card.

Yes, it is a dual SIM phone and supports 3G networks. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and micro USB. Further, the phone features a massive a 2500 mAh battery that according to Microsoft will give at least 20h 30m of talk time on 3G.

Experience the New Windows on Your Brand New Smartphone

The Microsoft Lumia 640 runs on Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim. The OS makes the user interface a little friendly not like Android. If you are buying this phone to taste the flavor of upcoming Windows then be happy as it is Windows 10 ready.

Sony Xperia E4 Dual SIM with Dual 3G

The Japanese brand Sony seems to be quite struggling these days and whatever it is doing does not seem to be worthy. It is not that Sony is not trying, but it is not innovating. The Japanese smartphone maker recently launched the Xperia E4 dual in India, which has nothing to offer, but the battery.

High-end specs lovers are continuously getting disappointed with Sony products and this phone is no different. If you want to know, then it is available for the price of 11,304 Rupees. But I think because of the design and the battery, it is worth to review this phone. Might something special come out in front of you?

Not much thin but still premium: You would not find the Sony Xperia E4 Dual SIM much thin as it is 10.5 mm when it comes to thickness. This size cannot be said to thick, but yeah it is not thin either. The matte finish at the back and the sticking out display on the front make this phone stand out. The carved out edges feel very comfortable in the hand and the metal power key just adds to that.

Performance of this Sony Phone is not up to the mark

I don’t know why a company like Sony would use a MediaTek chipset in its premium looking phone, but it is true. The Sony Xperia E4 packs a 1.3GHz quad-core (MediaTek MT6582) processor and the reason seems to be the tight budget. However, if tight budget was an issue, then how can Yu Yureka feature a Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon chipset?

Sony Xperia E4 Dual Review in India

Leaving the processor behind, the phone features an Adreno 405 GPU for processing graphics. You get a 1GB of RAM, which is not enough and a 8 GB of internal storage that can be expanded to 32 GB using a SD Card.

The 5 inches display has a resolution of 540 X 960 pixels because of which the crispness is reduced, but the battery performs great. You will not find this display much appealing and the colors are also distorted when viewed from an angle. The Sony has put an unknown protector on the display, which is said to protect the screen from scratches.

Camera: You will get a big disappointed on the camera side. The 5MP rear shooter gives much unnatural images because the software tries to cover up the noise. It can record videos at 1080P FHD, but you might do not want to hear about the quality. The front 2MP camera produces some quality selfies though.

Battery and Sony's Poorly Managed User Interface

The 2300 mAh battery might not sound massive, but because the other specs are low it performs very well. You will get two days of battery backup easily on this phone.

On the connectivity front, this phone supports two SIM cards, both with 3G capability. You get all the bells and whistles that you normally get on any other android phone like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Proximity sensor and Accelerometer.

Light UI but loaded with bloatware: The Sony Xperia E4 dual runs Android 4.4 Kitkat out of the box and Sony’s skin on top of it is not much heavy. But the bloatware ruins the experience though you can uninstall much of them. These days all the manufacturers are promising Lollipop update for all their new phones, but Sony has not said anything about the Xperia E4 dual on this matter.
