According to user’s requirement of resources, laptops can be grouped into three categories: laptops with basic specs for home use and for students, laptops with standard specs for corporate executives, and laptops with high-end specs for tech professionals and for multimedia production setup.
We have published many articles on – laptops with standard and high-end specifications. Therefore, it is an obvious necessity to have an article that covers budget laptops. This is the first article on GS reviewing laptops with basic specifications for home, students, small business owners, and even for casual users.
In this article, I am going to look into features of three popular laptops with Windows 10 operating system. Currently, laptops with Intel i-series processors, the successor of Intel Pentium series processors, are available in not less than 25000 rupees price. Therefore, without crossing the budget of 23000 rupees, we have carefully selected two laptop models with Pentium processor, and one with AMD dual core processor.
In terms of speed and smoothness in usages, these three smart hardware with the latest Windows 10 software are currently among the best choices below the price of 23000 rupees. Without any second thought just grab one of these efficient products.
HP 15-AC168TU (Pentium/4GB/500GB/Windows 10/Integrated Graphics)
After having a terrible experience with my Dell laptop for poor LED screen and broken sound system (after installation of VLC player, it is silent now), I firmly believe that HP laptops are the best in terms reliability and durability.
My first laptop was from Compaq (HP) and I being a beginner then, had used it badly for quite a long time. Still that lasted four years with all the features and functions were up, working well. I sold the laptop at a good price as I wanted to upgrade to a highly qualified Dell device. Thus, one more point to note here is: HP laptop would get you much better resell value that any other brands.
The HP 168TU laptop has the amenity for experiencing multimedia, online, news, and educational contents, but the quality of its features are not uniform. However, one good thing about this laptop model is – all features and connectivity ports are included without dodging any because of its low price. In fact, as I can see on the online platforms, users have no complaint about missing features rather they are complaining some faulty parts.
Products with faulty component are an issue in online shopping, but that gets nicely cured by exciting return policy of the e-commerce company; so, nothing to worry about faulty parts.
The Latest Operating system: Windows 10 Preinstalled
One of the big reasons why HP AC168TU laptop model looks attractive is: Windows 10 (home) operating system being preinstalled on it. Microsoft has announced that no future version will be released; rather, there will be some regular improvements within the range, drawn by Windows 10 operating system for now. Therefore, having this low-cost laptop means an up-to-date product in terms of software for the next ten years at least. That long even the hardware of this device may not survive.
My laptop runs on Windows 7 and now I have been forced to update it to Windows 10 since some key appliances, I am using is not supported by Windows 7 in the upgraded version of the programs. Users of HP AC168TU will not have to go for such forced update since their new HP laptop will have Windows 10 latest with the free official update for lifetime.
CPU: Processor and RAM
You may have some concern about the laptop speed because of the Pentium processor. Your concern is genuine. In the selection of good models for this article, my team had carefully calculated the details of other supporting features that play a greater role in the CPU along with the processor. Of course, RAM is one very important – and is as significant as the processor in a CPU area.
If processor is a performer, RAM is a stage. Even brilliant, popular performer cannot give their 100% on a small or congested stage. 4GB DDR RAM offers ample space for the processor in action for faster execution of user’s instruction.
On the 64-bit architecture of HP AC168TU, the processing ability of Intel Pentium dual core processor at a clock speed of 1.9GHz with a four GB DDR3 RAM is not less than the delivery expected from an Intel i3 processor in terms of executing user’s instruction and running essential process in the background. Yes, this is true to that users may face terrible experience during gaming, but for regular usages like browsing, watching movies, and reading some interesting content or study material, this HP would never disappoint.
There is no dedicated graphics: it is internally managed by Intel HP graphics application. However, you can watch original HD video from online and offline source in a great quality. Games, too, gets played without crashing or overlapping frames.
The HP laptop is affordable because of a Pentium processor; however, its other features are in the same great quality as generally seen in a professional laptop – costs not less than 35000 rupees. Its widescreen in 15.6-inch size sports an HD resolution (1366×768 pixels) and has HP’s signature technology in action to enhance the display performance as well.
As I have already mentioned in the graphics review article that users will be able to watch movies in a real HD quality, and because of the brightness and brilliant color orientation, too, even reading text on web page remains a pleasant experience for the end users.
Users will find all necessary ports and appliance-based support for connectivity. The HP laptop owns USB 2.0, 3.0, HDMI, LAN, digital media card reader, webcam, and a standard audio solution that allowing output and input of audio in a great quality.
Since HP AC65TU is a budget laptop, not all segments of it have a uniform standard generally expected on an HP laptop. Yes, I was referring to the four-cell battery of it. For charging it fast, HP ships 65W EM AC power adaptor.
Because of the Pentium processor, the battery onboard drains fast. In fact, Intel i-series processors are costly also because that is much more energy efficient than any other processors launched so far by Intel brand.
Thus, in spite of the same set of features in the same quality as we see on premium laptops, a cut in the retail price of HP AC168TU is directly linked with somewhat an outdated processor that is further linked with a relatively average battery backup it has.
- Original Window 10 home preinstalled
- A brilliant laptop at very affordable price
- WLED 15.6-inch screen in HD Resolution
- USB 3.0, HDMI, Three-in-one media card reader
- Average battery backup
HP AC168TU is a great piece of hardware runs on a set of latest software with some manageable cons as well. For home users, students, and to use in managing records of small businesses, this HP laptop could be trusted. Battery backup issue is not big as most of the time it will be close to a power socket.
Acer Aspire ES Series ES1-520-32UP
(AMD Dual-core Processor, 4GB RAM, 1TB Hard Drive, Windows 10)
AMD processors are an ideal choice for gaming laptops. However, in this article, we are looking into some of classy “Everyday use” laptops with standard hardware and the latest set of essential software.
To ensure affordability for buyers, Acer has trusted AMD processor instead of Intel Pentium. AMD, in order to compete with Intel, keeps its processor price relatively low. Despite, it has been failed since Intel’s indigenous processor technology for multitasking PCs is much more reliable and user-friendly.
1024GB or 1TB Memory
The built quality of this Acer laptop is not as sturdy as the HP laptop, but that gets balanced by having some additional advanced features onboard. While the rest two budget laptops are limited a just 500GB SATA hard disk, Acer has blessed this laptop with a massive 1024GB or 1TB memory, almost double. Store with a great freedom as much as photos, videos, songs, other files users want on it.
Excellent Choice for Gaming
Buy a gaming laptop of any brand including Apple, AMD hardware shall be there in some critical area for boosting performance. This proves AMD’s in the gaming world. However, on this Acer laptop, not one critical area rather the CPU itself is fully powered by an AMD dual-core processor, clocks at 1.4GHz: making it a quite worthy budget choice for playing hard games like GTX and others.
Despite AMD processor, which is not so multitasking-friendly, I have selected this laptop since it is for the groups of people, who largely do one or two tasks at one time on a computer. Students will either watch a movie or read study material. Similarly, home users will use a laptop for paying bills or some basic works. In such scenario, AMD processor is more than perfect.
I have also said good words about the HP laptop, comes with a Pentium processor, discussed above; so, how will one decide exactly which laptop is better in terms of processor performance.
Let me clarify here. If you have used a laptop with Intel processor in past then go with either HP or Lenovo’s offering because both have Intel Pentium processor in action whereas for beginners- AMD processor is the best since the Acer laptop also have some additional maximized specifications other than the processor.
Intel is always a step ahead than AMD, offers a rhythmic smoothness in usages; whereas AMD processors always suffer from bottleneck problem when used for multitasking.
If one has a desire to open many browser tabs, while some download process is on, an Adobe application is also an action, a media player entertaining with songs, document processor also in action for checking error, and meanwhile an email has popped up in the MS outlook that carries a PPT, which has to be updated now and rematch its some records from an excel sheet files contains more than 10000 records, then the need is for a laptop with Intel processor, an AMD processor measurably fail in such tough situation.
4GB DDR3 RAM with One unused slot
There are two RAM slots onboard: one slot is already occupied by a 4GB DDR3 RAM whereas another remains empty for users. Both slots together can expand onboard RAM up to 16GB. For a laptop, whose cost is less than 22000 rupees offering many veracities for user’s experience advancement is just fantastic.
Acer has made this model rich with many communication ports. It comes with three USB ports, one HDMI port, 5-in-1 card reader, Mic-in, and Ethernet port as well.
Long Lasting Battery
In terms of battery backup, it is much more efficient than the HP laptop discussed above and the Lenovo laptop, I am going to discuss after this. Almost four to five hours of power backup making it a trustworthy choice for students particularly.
- Very good battery backup
- Smooth processor does not heat up even after long usages
- Dual RAM slot
- Original Microsoft Windows 10
- LED indicator
- Excellent trackpad response
- Very good budget choice for playing games
- Not so strong in terms of built
- Unnaturally heavy
- LCD Screen: not so good for reading web page or text
- A bit slower than a laptop with Intel processor
- Slow charger
In the above paragraphs, I have discussed in a great length why this Acer laptop could be a great choice for beginners. Users with some prior experience in using Intel processor based laptops should go with either HP or Lenovo laptop. Even for a multitasking requirement, choose a laptop with Intel processor, AMD’s chipset might disappoint greatly.
Lenovo Ideapad 100 Series 100-15IBY 80MJ00PAIH
(Pentium Quad Core and 5th Generation – 4GB DDR3/500 GB HDD/Windows 10 Home)
I am not a big fan of Lenovo brand still one of its latest budget laptops found feet in this article because of three good reasons: Windows 10 operating system, Pentium quad-core processor, and its retail price being less than 23000 rupees.
Since I have already discussed the benefit and advantage of Windows 10 operating system, here I will focus more on its CPU and other important features, which does matter to users.
Pentium Quad Core 5th generation processor
In terms of processor power, Lenovo’s this laptop is miles ahead than the HP laptop with Pentium dual core processor. Further, it has two RAM slots, using which the onboard RAM size can be upgraded to 8GB. For graphic management, it has internal solution powered by Intel HD graphics application.
The quad core 5th gen processor, RAM, and graphic solution together provides a cushion for hassle-free gaming, playing HD videos, and running heavy applications on this Lenovo laptop.
For advanced multitasking, the CPU is fully resourceful and capable. I do not think any other budget laptop model would ever have such resources by keeping their retail value below 25000 rupees.
By going through other specs of this laptop, one thing appears very clear: Lenovo had spent a substantial portion of the laptop budget just to boost its CPU as the other aspect of it is perfectly imbalanced and outdated as well.
Disappointment with features
Connectivity, battery backup, keyboard design, and built quality are some of the areas where this budget model has failed to make a positive impression.
- The most powerful CPU in a Windows 10 laptop
- Dual RAM slot
If you need a windows 10 laptop with a powerful CPU, the Lenovo laptop model may be a great option to go with. However, it will disappoint greatly with limited connectivity options, average display, three-cell battery that hardly lasts a working session, and not so tough built as well. I do not think it will survive in one piece if falls from a study table.
Further, I have a great displeasure with Lenovo’s poorly designed keyboard. In fact, In order to register an input, every time user’s finger has to land exactly on the center of a key. That makes it is very unfriendly for typing works.
A long list of features does not mean the product is made in standard quality. My friends who bought the Lenovo laptop because of mouth-watering specifications, now after a year has no option but to cry since those exciting features are saying goodbye one-by-one. They cannot even claim for free service since warranty period is always over. Furthermore, they will not gain much by selling the laptop in second-hand IT goods market. Actually, you may get a good deal for second-hand HP laptops, but for Lenovo and Acer almost nothing.
