HTC Desire 626 Review and Specifications

LG K10 4G Dual SIM Camera Mobile Phone

The “Make in India” is PM Modi’s pet project and it seems to be attracting many smartphone MNCs. Recently, LG launched its first Made in India smartphone i.e. the K10 (along with K7). This smartphone is a mid-range offering from LG and is available in the market for an amount of 12,299 rupees.

This LG 4G camera is good for photography

The LG K10 sports a 13 MP rear and an 8 MP front shooter. Both cameras are good at capturing images. Accurate color reproduction and high contrast ratio give life to the images. This smartphone successfully manages to limit noise in low light.

However, users can only record HD videos on the LG K10. This limitation will stop many people from purchasing it. In addition, the preloaded camera app does not come with an easy to manage interface. My advice would be to install some other camera apps from the Play Store. Also, extra features like “Gesture Shot” and “Tap & Shot” are worth mentioning here.

Worst Design: I just cannot believe that a big brand like LG would use such a cheap design on a phone in 2016. The K10 feels more like a smartphone from the year 2011. Silver paint on the edges will fade over time and make the phone look very ugly.

LG has not used even a single piece of metal in its outer shell. The only thing, however, I can appreciate is the 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass it features on top of the display. This glass feels really great when you operate the phone.

These days one can easily get a full HD display smartphone for around 9000 rupees but somehow LG has decided to install the K10 with just a 720p panel (5.3-inch display). Further, Android 5.0 Lollipop makes the interface of this phone look a bit old, though it will receive the Marshmallow update quite soon.

Snapdragon Processor Still An Average Performer

It is hard to understand what LG is charging more than 12000 rupees for. When someone spends this much money, he or she expects to get a good phone capable of running heavy games and apps. Technically, the K10 hails a mediocre Snapdragon 410 chipset coupled with 2GB of RAM. In my opinion, this phone will suffer even while running mid-range games.

On the network support side, fortunately, it comes with 4G connectivity. The back panel is removable, which is another good thing. Also, LG ships a 2300-mAh battery capable of giving around 3-4 hours of screen on time with this phone.

  • Cannot run heavy games
  • Unattractive design

Final Verdict: Except for photography, there is no reason why a person should purchase this smartphone. LG should understand the needs of modern smartphone users. Nowadays a brand cannot just expect its smartphone to become popular with mediocre specs.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3

Since its conception, Xiaomi has focused on only one goal i.e. high-quality products at low price. This strategy has made this brand famous all over the world. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 became a great attraction for smartphone enthusiasts in January of this year. At just 9,999 rupees, it offers a sturdy body, full HD display, and a beasty processor.

Although I do not like the camera performance of this smartphone but considering the price point, it is manageable. It sports a 13MP rear and a 5MP front shooter. Moreover, the Redmi Note 3 is a decent phone for casual photographers, though you should not expect much. Read More about Redmi Note 3 at Smartphones with Powerful Battery and Camera

HTC Desire 626 Dual SIM Smartphone with an Impressive Camera

HTC is struggling in the budget segment from the last many years. In the beginning of 2015, it launched the Desire 626 in developed markets like the USA with a hope to register some growth in sales. I would like to point out though this phone took around 11 months to become available in India.

Currently, this smartphone is listed on e-commerce websites with a price tag of 12,999 rupees.

Appealing Form Factor: The Desire 626 is available in two color variants i.e. white and blue, both of which look attractive. It features a typical HTC style front panel with call-speaker at the top and loudspeaker at the bottom.

Soft touch back panel feels great in the hand. Power and volume keys are on the right side, though they are not as tactile as you would expect them to be. Also, the 5-inch 720p display does not make much sense in today’s competitive market but we cannot make HTC responsible for that since it is an early-2015 smartphone.

Impressive Optics: HTC has greatly focused on optics while making the Desire 626. Its full HD recording capable rear camera shoots images in 13MP. No matter how bright the outdoor conditions are – images taken from this camera will always be perfectly exposed. A 5MP shooter on the front acts as a good platform for taking selfies.

Both front and rear cameras sport BSI sensors, which mean they will capture more light even in dark conditions.

Octa Core Processor and 2GB RAM

The Indian variant of the Desire 626 features an Octa-core 1.7 GHz processor. Onboard 2GB of RAM provides enough memory for all the apps to run in background. Its 16 GB of storage is expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card. This smartphone handles casual games smoothly but when it comes to graphic intensive games like Asphalt 8 and NOVA 3, performance issues start to surface up.

Out of the box, the Desire 626 runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat, which is really shameful. Moreover, I do not think HTC will provide any OS update to this phone in future. Further, its small 2000-mAh battery fails to offer power backup even for a single day.

  • 4G LTE
  • Expandable storage
  • BSI sensor
  • Good design

  • Not a gaming device
  • Small battery
  • Low resolution display

Verdict: Even HTC’s diehard fan boys should restrict themselves from purchasing this smartphone. The Desire 626 does have a good camera but it underperforms in all other departments. There are many smartphones out there offering a million times better specs at much lower prices.

Huawei Honor 5x with Strong 10MP 5MP Camera

The Honor 5x is a nine months old smartphone. It comes in an HTC inspired outer shell and is available for an amount of 12,999 rupees. Camera performance of this device has greatly impressed me. Fast shutter speed helps in capturing action shots. It preserves details in images by lowering sharpness. Further, the rear camera shoots 4:3 images in 13 MP and 16:09 images in 10 MP. Autofocus system is fast and accurate. Its 5MP selfie shooter is also great at taking pictures and offers an aperture of f/2.4. While its rear sensor can record full HD videos, the front is limited to 720p videos only.

You would love the camera interface of the Honor 5x. Each and every option is easily accessible. By swiping on the screen, users can change shooting modes. Scene modes always remain just tap away. To be honest, its interface closely resembles the look and feel of the iPhone’s camera app.

Inbuilt Time Lapse feature with the Honor Phone's software will prove to be quite handy to the users. Read more about Honor 5x at Super Premium Smartphones under 13000 Rupees.
