Taking selfies has become a kind of act that almost everyone loves to do and the smartphone manufacturers understand this well. Earlier it was only the small brands, which were making smartphones with powerful cameras at the front. However, as these types of smartphones are getting popular in the market, bigger brands are also jumping into the competition. Last month Sony launched the Xperia C5 Ultra Dual, a smartphone that not only features 13 MP camera on the back but also on the front. However, the price of this phone is a little bit high at 27,489 rupees.
Stunning Looks With Great Build Quality: The Xperia C5 Ultra has got the same profile that features in most of smartphones launched by Sony this year. Curved metallic edges give a comfortable feel while holding the phone, but the glossy finished back panel is really slippery. There is also a dedicated camera button on the right side along with metallic power button and plastic volume rocker.
This smartphone is certainly a piece of marvel. Even though it has got a huge 6 inch display but you will not find problem in holding it for a single hand operation. However, you might have to use your other hand during the use. The side bezels are really thin and are hardly noticeable. Read also Sony Xperia Dual SIM Smartphone with Indian 4G LTE.
Unattractive But Manageable Display
IPS display is a big disappointment because I was really expecting OLED panel at this price. The colors that the display reproduces are not that great when we compare with other smartphones of this 30000 rupees price segment. The viewing angles are also not that wide as from the extreme sides the display starts turning dark. However, full HD resolution and high motion refresh rate even out all the drawbacks. Playing games, watching movies, and browsing through the interface is not as great as you are expecting, but it is immersive because of the bigger screen.
Great Cameras: Sony did remarkable job by putting Sony Exmor-R sensors on both sides of camera in this smartphone. In fact, both shooters are also equipped with LED flash. The images taken from the front camera do turn out to be stunning. However, I was disappointed with the color reproduction of rear camera. Although the images taken from it did pack details but they were lacking on the front of saturation. However, this problem will not annoy a casual user. Both the Camera sensors are capable of shooting at full HD resolution at 30 frames per second and also have support for digital image stabilization.
The interface is full of cool features. There are tons of presets and tools to choose from like AR Fun, Multi Camera, Sweet Panorama and Creative Effect. Sony has also created a dedicated store from where you can download unlimited number of apps for the camera interface. Manual camera controls are also available on this smartphone.
Android Lollipop With Minimal Customizations
Acting according to the demand of the users, Sony has restricted itself from heavily customizing the default Android interface of the device. However, you still get the old Xperia UI feel while browsing through phone. The Sony Xperia C5 Ultra Dual is loaded with a bunch of bloatware, but the good thing is you can uninstall most of them to free up some memory.
Front-Firing Speaker: The front position of the speaker proves to be really great in enhancing your music listening experience. You get to hear loud audio as the speaker itself is facing you and it also reduces the chances of muffling the mesh.
Decent Performance: Before actually using this phone, I was bit unsure whether the MediaTek chipset will be able to provide the expected processing power or not. However, after playing games and running benchmarking tests, I am really convinced that the 1.7 GHz octa-core processor of this phone is a beast that can take anything that you throw on it. In AnTuTu, it got a really high score of 46065. Geekbench single-core and multicore tests returned the score of 800 and 4223 respectively.
This smartphone handles even the intensive games pretty easily. Games like Asphalt 8, Modern Combat 5 and NOVA 3 can all be played in the highest graphic settings available. The only bad thing here is that you will not be able to install too many games as external storage cannot be chosen as default write disc. Sony offers Huge Battery on this phone
You will not have to worry about the power backup of this smartphone as its 2930 mAh non-removable battery will provide enough juice to last more than one day. Moreover, there is also a special saving mode on the Sony C5 Ultra that really helps in emergency situation.
Connectivity and Sensors: The first thing to be mentioned here would be the LTE support that allows the users to enjoy speeds up to 150 Mbps on this phone. As evident from the name itself, the phone is equipped with two SIM card slots. The Sony Xperia C5 Ultra Dual features NFC that really expands the connectivity options of the user.
It is also loaded with all the sensors that you would ever need like Accelerometer, Proximity Sensor, Light Sensor, Gyroscope, Magnetometer, Pedometer and Step Counter.
- 13 MP front and 13 MP rear camera
- Huge 2930 mAh battery
- 2 GB RAM and octa-core processor
- 4G LTE
- Attractive design
- 200 GB micro SD card support
- Front–firing speaker
- Heavy Build
- Viewing angles are not that great
Verdict: The Sony Xperia C5 Ultra is the only phone of its kind that offers huge display, great selfie camera and a powerful processor. However, I still believe that its price is on the higher side. It would be a great decision to wait for about a month or two and expect some price fall. Read also Best Battery Backup Smartphone under 15000 Rupees.
