OnePlus has acquired a special place in the market within a short period. Many experts still regard this brand as young and evolving. The OnePlus One smartphone that was launched last year is still one of the bestselling budget smartphones in the country.
As expected, the brand launched its next flagship earlier this year. However, the company also did something else that no one had thought of. It launched another smartphone, which we know as the OnePlus X. This 17000 rupees phone got everything right to increase OnePlus position in the Indian smartphone market.
With the launch of X, OnePlus reaffirms, it will continue to focus lucrative 15000 to 20000 rupees budget segment in Indian market. In many countries like the United States, this amazing smartphone is being sold in regular model, but in India, you will have to get an invite to buy it. Occasionally, Amazon and OnePlus together arrange flash sales of OnePlus gadgets wherein purchase do not require an invite code. Call at +91 8010775577 to get an invite for OnePlus X.
Currently, the OnePlus X is available exclusively on Amazon India for an amount of 16999 rupees. Read also OnePlus 10000 mAh Power Bank Below 1500 Rupees.
Metal Glass Extraordinary Design
Both OnePlus One and OnePlus Two featured sandblast outer shell that were appreciated by customers and critics. The OnePlus X takes the same tradition to a much higher level. Its design will just blow your mind. Chamfered edges offer a cute feel.
The manufacturer has placed glass panels on both front and backside of the phone. This indeed renders a premium look in the craft. Since the OnePlus X's body and screen both are fingerprint magnet, I advise using a skin or silicon cover.
A sign of OnePlus brilliant design is while you hold it in the hand it does not feel like a budget device. The edges and control buttons are all made of metal. The combination of metal and glass is the real secret of design success on the OnePlus X.
The phone comes in two variants i.e. Ceramic and Onyx black. Amazon takes order for black variant only. Even we advise you to buy OnePlus X in Onyx color combination only.
An Excellent Camera: Budget smartphones are generally infamous for bad camera quality. But the OnePlus X has taken a big leap in the right direction. Although the limited budget stopped the manufacturer from featuring Optical Image Stabilization on this phone but its background processing works well.
You will be able to capture super sharp images from its 13 MP primary sensor. ISOCELL technology helps in capturing more light that ultimately results in clear and noise-free images even in darker situations. The onboard Camera software has been optimized to give zero shutter lag. The rear camera can capture 1080 videos at 30 frames per second.
One can find another high-grade 8MP camera on the front of the OnePlus X. It reproduces accurate colors even in dull situations. You will certainly love taking selfies with it.
However, OnePlus had to make some sacrifices in the optical department. You do get some control over the hardware settings, but most of the elements are hidden under the hood. Users cannot even capture RAW images on this phone. Read also 5 Best Smartphones with Best Battery Life This Month.
Great 1080P AMOLED Display Panel
Perhaps, the main highlight of the OnePlus X is its 5-inch display. The full HD resolution of 1080 X 1920 pixels makes everything on the screen come alive. Sharper images and really wide viewing angles give the users an immersive experience. The best thing is it is an AMOLED panel, which means it will produce true blacks. Contrast ratio is much high that enhances the color quality. No other smartphone in the market offers a display this great.
Dedicated Alert Slider: Taking an inspiration from the flagship, OnePlus has featured an alert slider on the right side of this phone. It gives the users a direct access to different notification modes. The slider has been engraved with patterns so that users can find it easily without even looking at the phone. But there is a catch. Many times this slider moves to a different position while putting the phone in pocket of a tight jeans.
To be accurate, OnePlus seems to have copied the idea of alert slider from Apple’s iPhone lineup.
A Performance Beast: In a sense, the manufacturer has put the same hardware on this phone that was earlier featured on the OnePlus One. Although Snapdragon 801 is now a generation old chipset but its performance is still unmatchable in this price segment. The 2.3 GHz quad-core processor is really a beast and can take anything that you throw on it. The OnePlus X also comes equipped with 3GB of RAM, which is just exceptional.
Gaming Test and Gaming Performance by this OnePlus Smartphone
I tried a few graphic intensive games like NFS No Limits and NOVA 3 and I was stunned by its performance. The smartphone handles most of the games available on Play Store without any issue. All the graphics and shadows get unfolded pretty nicely. I will also agree that the OnePlus X suffers from some frame drops, but the chance of that happening is rare.
Benchmark Result: It impressed me in all benchmarking tests. The interesting thing is that the hardware of this phone never gets uncomfortably hot even if you play games on it for more than 30 minutes.
Another good thing is its 16 GB of onboard storage is expandable up to 128 GB via a microSD card.
Oxygen OS: After getting legally sued by Micromax last year, OnePlus finally decided to develop its own Android based custom ROM. The version of the ROM that the OnePlus X runs out of the box is a mod of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The manufacturer has tried the best to offer all the extra features that one gets after flashing CyanogenMod OS.
Its interface takes full advantage of AMOLED technology. You will find that the whole menu has been painted in black color. Of course, it has been done to save the battery. Most of the elements of the skin are customizable. Moreover, OnePlus has also allowed the users to set the permission on per app basis.
Unfortunately, at the moment, CyanogenMod does not support this phone officially. But if you badly want a stock Android experience with lots of customization options then be sure to head over to XDA Developers.
Dual SIM Functionality
This time, around OnePlus has tried to impress the Indian smartphone lovers by offering dual SIM functionality on this smartphone. But the problem is you cannot use a secondary SIM card and a microSD card slot simultaneously on the OnePlus X. It looks like the manufacturer had a very limited space, which is why it has featured only a single eject slot on this smartphone. The story does not stop here. You will also not be able to use this phone to tag other devices using NFC.
One relieving thing, however, is that it is a 4G LTE enabled phone and you can enjoy super-high download speeds on it.
Decent Battery Life: Limited space might have seriously affected the connectivity department of OnePlus X, but you should not worry about its power backup. It houses a massive 2525 mAh battery on the back. On a single charge, it offers about 3.5 hours of screen on time. Average users can expect a full day of battery backup on the OnePlus X.
- Eye-catching design
- Storage is expandable
- Offers good power backup
- Camera quality is amazing
- AMOLED full HD display panel
- Down-firing speakers
- 4G connectivity
- Performance is really impressive
- Alert slider
- Lacks NFC
- Secondary SIM slot and microSD slot cannot be used at the same time
Final Verdict and Conclusion!!!
The OnePlus X is a mind-blowing smartphone. It is an example of how much joy a company born out of rising competition can bring to the face of budget customers. This smartphone fits all types of usage. The cons that I have mentioned in this review are not big enough to affect user experience. However, I would certainly expect the manufacturer to address these issues in the next version of this smartphone. Read also Top 10 4G Smartphones in 9000 to 23000 Rupees Budget.
