Dual SIM Spice Stellar 526n Octa with Android Kitkat and 2500 mAh Battery

Display and Design

The Spice Stellar 526n Octa features a 5inch HD on-cell IPS display with a resolution of 720 X 1280 pixels. The resolution translates to a pixel density of 294 ppi. Those who don’t know about on-cell display, it is a technology that allows a significant reduction in the screen thickness.

Spice Stellar 526n Octa Review and Specifications

On the design front, the phone features metallic finish on the back and chrome finish on the side. The problem with metallic paint is that it gets eroded with time. However, the overall design is very nice and it feels like holding a very premium phone in the hand.

Specifications

As I have already mentioned, the phone packs a 1.4GHz octa-core processor with a Mali GPU. We can’t tell you about the chip-set because the manufacturer itself hasn’t specified it. You get 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 32GB via SD Card. You will not find any kind of lags or performance issues on this phone. If you love gaming, then you should be happy to buy it.

The phone is powered by a 2500mAh battery, which will provide a decent power back up and you will be able to make it to the end of the day on a single charge.

Dual SIM Spice Stellar 517 with 3000 mAh Battery

The Spice launched two new smartphones in the November of the last year – the stellar 517 and the stellar 407. Today, we will be talking about the first one, which is available at a very affordable price of 7999 INR.

Design and Display

It is a tall kind of phone with thin bezels around the sides and measures only 9.8mm in terms of thickness. The phone is available in white and a grey color options.

Spice Stellar 517 Review and Specifications

The Spice Stellar 517 features a 5 inch FWGA IPS display with a resolution of 480 X 854 that translates to a pixel density of 196 ppi. The resolution is manageable, but if you are a gaming guy then you would certainly want to go to some other phone.

Specifications

The 1.3 GHz Quad-core processor (unspecified SoC) might give a decent experience, but will not be able to do hardcore processing. However, considering the price point it is acceptable.

Further, this comes with 1GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage that can be easily expanded up to 32GB using a Micro SD Card.

The 8 MP Auto focus camera at the back will give you some nice clicks, but make sure to see the lighting conditions before. For selfie lovers, the Spice has put a 2 MP front facing camera on this phone. Both the rear and front camera are capable of recording video.

On the connectivity front, the Spice Stellar 517 has two SIM card slots and both supporting 3G networks. You will also get the connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and Micro USB port.

Considering the low resolution of the display, the 3000mAh battery will give this phone long power back up.

User Interface

The Spice Stellar 517 runs Android KitKat 4.4.2 with no word on whether it will be receiving the lollipop update or not. The interface is highly customized, but if you have used any Spice phone earlier then you might not feel much difference.

Pros:

  • 8 MP Auto focus camera with a LED Flash enables this phone to shoot some nice images. There is also a 2MP front facing camera for selfie lovers
  • Dual SIM slots with both supporting 3G networks

Cons:

Spice Mi 549 with 5.5 Inches FHD Display

The Year 2014 was a year of experimentation for Indian Smartphone brand Spice. It launched many smartphones and one was the Mi-549. In terms of outer look, It is quite identical to the iPhone 6 plus.

The Mi-549 was listed on HomeShop18 for some time at the price of 7,999 INR and some people were able to book their order. But if you want it now, then you might be unlucky as no online store is listing this phone. We thought that a phone pushing boundaries of the budget segment is worth to be mentioned here.

Design and Display

If you have seen iPhone 6 plus then you don’t need to know much about the design of this phone. The only differences you will find are the buttons and Spice branding.

The Spice Mi-549 features a 5.5 inch Full HD Display with a resolution of 1080 X 1920 pixels. The high pixel density of 400 ppi makes the display very sharp and pixilation free.

Specifications

Inside, the phone packs a 1.3GHz quad-core processor (unknown SoC) coupled with 1GB of RAM. If you are a gaming guy, then the Display might attract you, but the low processing power will stop you from playing graphic intensive games. The phone also features 8 GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 32GB via a Micro SD Card.

Spice Mi 549 Review and Specifications

On the optical front, you get an 8 MP Auto focus camera at the back with a LED flash. It is capable of taking some nice shots in the broad daylight, but faces the same age-old budget phone problem when it comes to low light imaging. The front facing 2MP camera can help you in video conferencing, but it is not recommended for Selfies as the quality that you will get would be very bad.

It is a dual SIM phone and supports 3G networks on both the SIM cards. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi, GPS, Micro USB and Bluetooth. The sensors like accelerometer, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor also make their way into this phone.

The Spice Mi-549 is powered by a 2200mAh battery, which might not be enough for this phone as it has a full HD display.

User Interface

Although the Spice Mi-549 runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, but the skin is highly customized. You might find some customizations comparable to the mods in other spice phones.

Pros:

  • Full HD Display with a pixel density of 400ppi
  • Decent 8MP rear camera
  • Dual SIM, both support 3G

Cons:

  • The 1.3 GHz Quad-Core processor with 1GB of RAM might not be enough for a phone with full HD display

SIM Dual, GSM, 3G+3G

iBall Andi 5F Infinito with qHD Display and 4000 mAh Battery

The Indian smartphone manufacturer iBall is again trying to get some momentum in the budget segment by launching the Andi 5F Infinito at the price of 7999 rupees. You might want to know, what this phone has to offer. Let’s straight away come to the review.

Design and Display

You will find a lot of curves on the iBall Andi 5F Infinito. The back, sides, edges all are curved to make it comfortable while holding in the hand. The power and volume buttons are on the right side leaving the left side barren.

The phone houses a 5 inch qHD display with a resolution of 960 X 540 pixels because of which the pixel density comes down to a mere 220 ppi. It is an IPS panel so you might find appealing colors and wide viewing angles.

Specifications

The Quad-Core 1.3 GHz MediaTek processor coupled with 1GB of RAM enables this device to handle the light weight task without any hassle. While playing graphic intensive games like NOVA 3 and Mortal Kombat, you might face some stuttering or frame drops. The iBall Andi 5F Infinito comes packed with a 8 GB of internal storage out of which the user only gets 4GB to store his personal files. The storage can be expanded up to 32 GB using a Micro SD Card though.

iBall Andi 5F Infinito Review and Specifications

Obi Boa S503 with Quad Core Processor and 2400 mAh Battery

Have you heard of Obi Mobiles? No? It is understandable because it is a relatively new player in the smartphone market. The brand is internationally floated by John Sculley, the former CEO of Apple Inc. The name seems familiar right? Well it is because he is the same person, who was responsible for kicking Steve Jobs out of the Apple Inc, decades ago.

Leaving the company politics behind let’s discuss what Obi Mobiles has to offer you. It entered Indian smartphone market last year and since then has launched many budget level phones. The latest in its line-up is the BOA S503, which is currently available for the price of 7990 INR.

Design and Display

The phone comes in two back color options i.e. black and white. The curvy corners and the soft touch back panel give this device a premium look. All the operational buttons are on the right side of the phone and are very much click able.

Obi Boa S503 Review and Specifications

The Obi BOA S503 features a 5 inch HD IPS Display with a resolution of 720 X 1280 pixels. In this price range, it is the best display with a decent pixel density (294ppi).

Specifications

The phone features a MT6582V/X 1.3GHz Quad-core Processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. This combination might make this phone best suited as a daily driver, but not a performer. You get a 4 GB of internal storage and not to mention the OS size, which will take a large part of it. You can expand the storage up to 64 GB using a Micro SD Card though.

On the back of the phone, you get a 8 MP shooter, which is powered by a Samsung S5k5EA CMOS sensor. The sensor is known to reduce noise from the low light images. You can take decent quality selfies from the front facing 2MP Camera.

The phone has two SIM Card slots, both of which can work on 3G networks. Other connectivity features of the Obi BOA S503 include Wi-Fi-IEEE 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, Micro USB and GPS.

With this phone, you also get all the necessary sensors that are needed for many utilities to work like Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor and Gravity Sensor.

The phone is powered by a 2400mAh battery that will give a decent power back up.

User Interface

The Obi BOA S503 runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. There is no word from the manufacturer on the Lollipop update.

The user interface is slightly customized as the icons are different from the stock version. The color combinations used gives a mix feeling of Jellybean and KitKat.

Indian 4G Lenovo A6000 Plus with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB Memory

It seems like future projections were able to intensively attract Lenovo to the Indian smartphone market. In January 2015, we saw the launch of the Lenovo A6000 that created a lot of turmoil among the other manufacturers and helped Lenovo to get a nice place in the eyes of customers. The giant doesn’t seem to want to lose this place, which is why just a few days ago it launched a new variant of the same phone, the Lenovo A6000 Plus.

The new smartphone is priced at 7499 INR and will be exclusively available at Flipkart.com. But is this device worth? Let’s dig deeper into what this new smartphone has to offer.

Design and Display

You won’t find anything new here and the fact is that nothing was needed to be changed too. The matte finish back gives the Lenovo A6000 Plus a very premium look and doesn’t attract fingerprints even. However, the sides of the screen are glossy and you might accidentally get some fingerprints there.

Lenovo A6000 Plus Review and Specifications

It features the same 5 inch HD display, which is manageable. I would have personally liked a full HD display, but then the cost might have gone too up. Colors and graphics look sharp with no distortions on the sides.

Specifications

The Lenovo A6000 Plus runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon (MSM8916) 1.2GHz Quad-core processor at the heart. It will be worth to mention that the processor features a 64 bit architecture. You get a 2 GB of RAM and a 16 GB of internal storage whereas its predecessor only featured 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. You can also expand the storage up to 32GB using a Micro SD Card.

The optical section hasn’t got any upgrades. The 8 MP rear camera performs great in daylight, but fails to perform in the low light conditions. The front 2MP camera is quite impressive in shooting some nice selfies.

It is a dual SIM phone with one SIM supporting 4G, 3G and 2G while the other one only supports 2G. Other connectivity options that come packed with the Lenovo A6000 Plus are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Micro USB port and GPS. The sensors featured are proximity sensor, light sensor and gravity sensor.

The Lenovo A6000 Plus is powered by a 2300mAh battery that, according to Lenovo, gives about 22 hours of talk time on 2G and 13 hours of talk time on 3G.

User Interface

The phone runs Vibe 2.0 on the top Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. There is no word on the lollipop update, but this phone should get it else the 64bit processor will be useless.

Pros:

  • 2 GHz Snapdragon processor with 64bit architecture
  • 2GB RAM and 16GB Internal Storage
  • 4G support
  • Sleek and very premium design

Cons:

  • The camera fails to perform in low light conditions
  • No word on the lollipop update
Price 7499 Rupees
SIM Dual, GSM, 3G+3G
OS Android Kitkat 4.4.2
Screen 5 Inches, HD
Processor 1.2 GHz Quad Core Snapdragon 410

Intex Aqua Speed with 16 GB Memory and 2GB RAM

You might ask why are we discussing the Intex Aqua Speed here when the Intex Aqua Speed HD has been launched. Well, the answer is because of the price (7666 INR only). This phone packs some cool specs, might be on year old, but still give tough competition to many smartphones currently in the market.

Design and Display

You might not get much impressed with the look of this device, but you will be impressed by the built quality. The matte-finish back with chrome edges are something that gives this phone a little premium look. But the sticking out front panel gives a feel like something has been removed from it, feels quite annoying.

Intex Aqua Speed Review and Specifications

Speaking about display, the phone features a 4.5inch IPS display with a resolution of 540 X 960 (qHD). Intex promises about 80 percent color saturation, but you might want some more pixels. The viewing angles are not much great, but in this price range, you can’t get anything more than this. If you are worried that this device gets scratch, then for you only Spice has put two extra scratch guards in the box.

Specifications

The 1.3 GHz quad-core processor (MediaTek MT6582M Chip set) ensures that all your daily work is handled easily. The feature that will impress you the most is the 2GB of RAM. The phone has got a 16 GB internal space, which is quite an exception and you can also increase it up to 32GB using a MicroSD Card.

The embarrassing feature that Intex Aqua Speed packs is a 1700 mAh battery. It might get difficult to get the whole day working on a single charge as the manufacturer itself promises only 4-5 hours of talk time.

Camera

On the back, you will find a 8 MP Auto focus camera with a LED flash and it is capable of taking some nice shots as well. The details are nice, but in low light you might get a little depressed. Talking about the front, the 5 MP shooter will make you happy if you are a selfie lover.

Connectivity and other features

The phone supports dual SIM cards, but you will only be able to enjoy 3G speeds on the first SIM only. The bands that are supported include- GSM900/1800, WCDMA 2100MHz. You also get the connectivity features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and Micro USB.

Software

The phone runs Android 4.4.2 Kitkat and upgradable to the Lollipop. On the interface front, you will find it quite similar to MIUI.

Pros:

  • 2 GB RAM and 16 GB of Internal Storage
  • 8 MP rear and 5 MP front camera
  • Upgradable to Lollipop

Cons:

  • Low resolution display
  • The 1700mAh battery might be disappointing for many

Processor 1.3GHz Quad Core MediaTek

Phablet Celkon XION S CT695 with 6.95 inches Display

In the late October, 2015, the Celkon launched a huge smartphone named XION S CT695. This smartphone is so huge that calling it a phone seems to be an insult of it. This hugeness and the price of just 7599 INR make it a piece of attraction. The Celkon, in spite of trying very hard, hasn't been able to leave any impression in the recent years.

Design and Display

The thin bezels on the sides of the screen give this device a very premium look. However, the hugeness makes it impossible to hold the phone in one hand.

It features a 6.95 inch display with a resolution of 1024 X 600 that translates to a pixel density of 171 ppi. The low pixel density will certainly disappoint you if you plan to watch movies on this device.

Specifications

The device packs a Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 (MediaTek Chip set), which might not be enough to give a lag free experience. Although the Mali 400 GPU will help an extent, but the fact that it comes with only dual core processor will certainly disappoint you.

If this device is not capable of giving a good movie and gaming experience, then why would someone buy it.

Celkon XION S CT695 Review and Specifications

You might not get much relief in the memory section also as the Celkon XION S CT695 features only 1 GB RAM, which is not enough for a device so huge in any sense. It has got a 8 GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 32 GB using a Micro SD Card.

On the back, the Celkon XION S CT695 has a 5MP camera that captures decent level of images. You will be able to click some nice shots, but the low light imaging is questionable. The front VGA camera enables this device for video conferencing, but don’t even think of taking selfies with it.

The Celkon XION S CT695 is powered by a 2500mAh battery, which is again a big disappointment. You might not be able to get a decent screen on time with so huge display.

User Interface

The Celkon XION S CT695 runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box. The user interface is overall stock with very little customizations.

Pros:

  • OTG Support
  • Very thin bezels
  • 5MP camera at the back

Cons:

  • Only dual core processor
  • Low pixel density (171ppi)
  • Low battery life
  • No word on Lollipop update
Price 7299 Rupees
SIM Dual, RegularGSM, 3G+2G
OS Android Kitkat 4.4.2
Screen 6.95 inches, 600×1024 pixels
Processor 1.2GHz Dual Core MediaTek
Memory 1GB RAM, 8GB Memory, 32GB SDcard Support
Camera 5 MP[P], 0.3 MP[F]
Battery 2500 mAh

Dual SIM Samsung Galaxy J1 with Android Kitkat

Since the last couple of years, Samsung is trying hard to get back its lost budget customers, but all its effort seems to be failing. Recently it launched the Galaxy J1, which is available at the price of 7360 INR from flipkart. The phone is a slow runner with many great features and this paradox stops many customers from buying it. It is from the Samsung so it got a place in our list, which is why we are reviewing it.

Design and Display

It’s the same age old design that has made its way to the Samsung Galaxy J1. The plastic body feels cheap and the glossy back attracts a lot of fingerprints. If you plan to buy a phone from the Samsung that has a good build quality then you will have to spend a lot of money because only the Galaxy S6 can match your expectations.

The phone features a 4.3 inch display with a resolution of 480 X 800 pixels that translates to a pixel density of 217 ppi. You wouldn’t find any color distortion from steep angles, but the brightness does change.

Specifications

In the heart of it there is a slow beating Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 processor (Spreadtrum Chip-set). The Mali 400 GPU helps the processor to get some relief though. Do not expect any performance from this phone as it only features a 512 MB of RAM. The low RAM memory results in slow processing of large data and frequent app crashes. You get only a 4 GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 128 GB with a Micro SD Card.

Samsung Galaxy J1 Review and Specifications

The heart might be slow, but the external parts are not. The 5 MP rear camera is something that you will love. Even some phones with 8 MP camera can’t match its macro imaging capability, but in the low light, you cannot expect much from a sub 8000 rupees device. It can record HD videos at 30 frames per second. The front facing 2 MP camera will take care of all our social networking needs.

It is a dual SIM phone and has all the connectivity features that a normal Android phone has like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Micro USB and GPS. The sensor part seems to be limited though as it only features accelerometer and proximity sensor.

The Samsung Galaxy J1 is powered by a 1850mAh battery. The battery capacity may not seem enough, but because of the low resolution of the display it lasts longer.

User Interface

Samsung did something special with this phone that it never does with any of its budget level device. It puts Android 4.4.4 KitKat inside it and the reason might be the Android One series powered by Google.

Pros:

  • Dual SIM
  • 5MP rear camera clicks very nice macro images
  • Decent battery backup

Cons:

  • Low resolution screen
  • Only dual-core processor
  • Only 512MB RAM which will prove to be insufficient
Price 7190 Rupees
SIM Dual, RegularGSM, 3G+2G
OS Android Kitkat 4.4.2
Screen 4.3 Inches,  480×800 pixels
Processor 1.2 GHz Dual Core Cortex
Memory 512MB RAM, 4GB Memory, 128GB SDcard Support

Motorola Moto E 2015 with Android Lollipop and Snapdragon Processor

After much speculations and rumors Motorola has finally launched the Moto E 2015. The new phone covers up the drawbacks of its predecessor and is yet very affordable. You can grab this phone for the price of 6999 INR.

Design and Display

The back of the Moto E 2015 is made of a soft touch material that feels comfortable in the hand. You will find the Moto dimple just below the camera that has become a sort of sign for all Motorola devices. The outer frame provides a nice grip and the great thing is that it can be changed.

The screen size has been increased to 4.5inches, but the resolution remains the same at 960 X 540 pixels. Due to the same resolution the pixel density comes down to 245 ppi, but any change is unnoticeable.

Specifications

The 3G version of the phone features a quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 processor (Snapdragon 200) paired with Mali 302 GPU, while the 4G LTE version features a 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor (Snapdragon 410) paired with Mali 306 GPU. Unfortunately, the 4G variant is yet to launch in India but if you can wait then the coming May can prove to be helpful for you.

Motorola Moto E 2015 Review and Specifications

The Moto E 2015 comes packed with a 1 GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage which is an improvement over the Moto E 2014. You can also expand the storage up to 32 GB using a SD Card.

The rear camera now supports Auto focus, but the sensor capacity remains the same at a 5 MP. You will not find any LED flash to help you in the dark places, but Motorola has placed a VGA camera on the front.

As I have already mentioned there are two variants of the Moto E 2015, one is the 3G and the other is 4G LTE. Both variants feature Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Micro USB and GPS.

On the sensor side, this phone can be little disappointing as it only comes with accelerometer and proximity sensor. The 2390 mAh battery seems enough to provide a full day back up.

User Interface

The Moto E 2015 runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box and hopefully by the time you will connect this phone to a Wi-Fi network, you will get the Android 5.0.1 update. In addition, Motorola has been making no major customizations on its phones and this phone, too, is no different. You will find more or less the same User Interface as the stock one.

Pros:

  • The best part is its low price (6,999INR)
  • 2 GHz quad-core processor
  • Outer frame provides an extra grip
  • Runs on latest Android

Cons:

  • The camera is the weakest point of this phone
  • Low pixel density
Price 6999 Rupees
SIM Single, MicroGSM, 3G
OS Andriod Lollipop 5.0.1
Screen 4.5 inches, qHD, 245 PPI
Processor 1.3GHz Quad Core Snapdragon 200
