Gionee Pioneer P3S
Gionee started off with a boom in India, but in the recent years, its popularity has faced a serious setback. Brands like Xiaomi and Motorola have filled up all the space in the market. However, Gionee is trying the best to get back what it has lost. In an attempt, this brand recently launched the Pioneer P3S smartphone in India, which is also considered the successor to the earlier launched Pioneer P3. It can be purchased for an amount of 5,599 rupees at the moment.
16 GB Onboard Storage
The smartphone offers 16 GB of internal storage out of which about 10.47 GB is available to the users. This storage volume is enough to install big games and store hundreds of multimedia files. However, if you feel limited, then micro SD card of up to 32 GB can also be installed on this phone. Quad-core CPU coupled with 1GB of RAM is good for running all kinds of tasks flawlessly.
List of Sensor Is Quite Long
Thanks to the long list of sensors that this smartphone is compatible with most of the utility apps available on the Play Store. It comes loaded with the sensors like Compass, Accelerometer, Light Sensor and G-Sensor.
Runs on Custom ROM and based on Android Lollipop
The version of AMIGO OS on which this smartphone runs is based on the Android 5.1 Lollipop. The interface is loaded with a number of bloatware apps. Moreover, the iOS-like launcher will annoy those customers who have not used any Gionee smartphone earlier.
Camera Quality Is Not That Impressive
I am highly disappointed with the camera performance of the Gionee Pioneer P3S. Its 5MP rear camera captures low quality images. Video recording is also limited to the HD resolution of 1280 X 720 pixels only. The front VGA camera will prove to be the biggest disappointment for selfie lovers.
- Inbuilt FM Radio
- Multiple color options are available
- Appealing design
- Smooth interface
- 1 GB of RAM
- Decent battery life
- Low-resolution display
- Bad camera performance
The Gionee Pioneer P3S is a good smartphone but stands nowhere in the competition. The market is full of smartphones that are offering betters specs at lower prices.

Intex Cloud Zest
Intex is a brand, which is mainly related with the budget segment of the electronics market. Recently, it launched the Cloud Zest smartphone that offers some amazing features at the price of 4,999 rupees only.
It is really an appreciable fact that Intex can house a 5 inch HD IPS display on the Cloud Zest even at this price. Colors reproduction is accurate and viewing angles are much wide. You will certainly have good movie watching and gaming experience with this smartphone.
Thanks to the quad-core 1.3 GHz processor that makes the interface of the Cloud Zest quite snappy. Users will also have decent multitasking experience as the phone sports 1GB of RAM. 8GB of onboard storage seems enough for installing multiple games, but you also get an option to install micro SD card of up to 32 GB.
4000 mAh massive Battery
This smartphone beats every other device out of the competition with its massive 4000 mAh battery. It will give at least 2 days of power backup on a normal usage. However, a battery this huge will also take hours to get fully charged.
Great on the Optical Front
On the back, the Cloud Zest features a 5MP camera that also has autofocus functionality. It also offers some interesting features like HDR, Panorama, and Slow Motion videos. The front 2MP shooter is no less surprising. You can capture decent Selfies and also enjoy high-quality video conferencing with it.
Loaded With Bunch of Extra Features
This phone comes preloaded with Android 5.1 Lollipop that offers an immersive experience to the end users. Customizations are minimal, but the manufacturer has done some level of tweaking to enhance the utility aspect of the Cloud Zest.
- High pixel density
- IPS display panel
- 2 MP front camera
- Offers near stock experience
- Micro SD card slot
- Dual SIM
- Great battery life
- Cannot run graphic intensive games
You should not waste time by looking for any other alternative as the Intex Cloud Zest is the best option in this price segment. It will certainly create a stiff competition in the market.
Karbonn Titanium S200HD
The Karbonn Titanium S200HD is one of the few smartphones that offer exceptional features in the budget segment. It comes with a good quality camera, performing CPU and a stunning display. You can get this phone for as low as 4999 rupees from the market.
On the front, this phone sports a huge 5 inch IPS panel. The HD resolution of 1280 X 720 pixels translates into a really high pixel density of 294 PPI. Graphics appears to be razor sharp on the screen. Thanks to the IPS technology that increases the contrast ratio and also widens the viewing angles. It is the perfect budget smartphone for those who like to watch movies and play games on the go.
The design of this smartphone will blow your mind for sure. Multiple color variants are also available, all of which look stunning. Slightly curved back looks great to the eyes as well provides a nice grip while holding the phone in hand. The smartphone is just 8.9 mm thick and weighs in at 108 grams only.
Hard Multi tasking Smartphone
The Karbonn Titanium S200HD is good at running apps flawlessly as it comes with 1GB of RAM and a quad-core processor. Although it is not a qualified gaming device but as a daily driver this Karbonn champ has potential to render leg-free experience for the end users.
8MP Rear Camera with Dual Tone Flash
With the 8MP rear camera, the Karbonn Titanium S200HD shoots stunning photographs with lots of details. The dual tone LED flash helps keep the environment neutral in low lighting conditions. You can also record crisp full HD videos with the rear camera.
This phone will be highly appreciated by selfie lovers for featuring a 3.2 MP camera on the front that captures nice photographs.
- 2600 mAh battery offers long power backup
- Appealing form factor
- 8 MP rear and 3.2 MP front shooters
- Local language support
- Runs on Android Kitkat but is upgradable to Lollipop
- Dual SIM
- Low onboard storage
In this price segment, this smartphone is the best that you can get. No other alternative smartphone offers many features at such a great price.
Lava Flair Z1
From the last one year, Lava has been extremely active in the smartphone market. The good thing is most of the smartphones that it has launched offer great features at reasonable prices. One such smartphone is the Lava Flair Z1, which is currently available for an amount of 5399 rupees.
This smartphone will certainly be loved by those who are the fan of bigger displays. Its 5 inch TFT panel offers immersive video watching experience. However, the low pixel density of 196 PPI is a serious issue. Other brands like Intex and Karbonn are offering smartphones with HD IPS displays at prices below 5000 rupees.
Good for Multitasking
Its 1.3 GHz processor coupled with 1GB of RAM enables the users to run multiple apps without any problem. The interface is smooth and browsing through the menu remains snappy. But do not expect to play graphic intensive games on the Lava Flair Z1. Even for installing bigger games, you will have to attach a micro SD card to it because the internal storage is limited to 8GB only.
The most surprising thing about this smartphone is that it features a unibody design even at this price. Its battery is not user removable, but the back panel is. However, I do not understand the point of putting all the slots under the back panel. This phone could have been thinner if Lava had featured the slots on the sides.
Not For Photography Lovers
If you are into photography, then this phone will not be a good device to buy. The 5MP rear camera considerably fails to shoot decent quality shots. Even the front 2MP camera is not good for taking Selfies.
- Huge display
- Battery life is good
- Eye-catching design
- Supports gesture controls
- Runs Android Lollipop out of the box
- Good at multitasking
- Dual SIM
- Camera quality is not good
- Fails to run graphic intensive games
The Lava Flair Z1 comes with a bigger display and fast processor. But its price is not in balance with the features.
Lava Iris X1 Selfie
The Iris X1 Selfie is a great smartphone for selfie lovers who are limited on the budget front. For an amount of 5649 rupees, it not only offers a decent front camera but also comes with other exceptional features.
Most of the good smartphones available under 6000 rupees price tag offer chipsets manufactured by some third party brands. But Lava has successfully managed to put a MediaTek Chipset on the X1 Selfie. Its processor runs at a decent clock speed of 1.3 GHz. However, the onboard user available storage on this smartphone is only 3.72 GB, which is quite disappointing. Although you can install a micro SD card on it but the apps that are moved to external storage suffer from lags.
5MP Selfie Camera
On this phone, you get a 5MP front facing camera along with LED flash. Lava uses BSI technology on all its smartphones, which is famous for capturing good details even in low light. If you are fond of Selfies, then the Beauty-fi software will certainly impress you.
The 8MP rear camera is also good at taking good quality shots. The 1.4-micron pixel size ensures capturing of accurate details, which results in better quality of images.
Near Stock Interface
Lava has restricted itself from doing a lot of customizations to the interface of this smartphone. The Android 5.1 OS enhances the user’s experience by offering clean and snappy UI. But the phone comes preinstalled with too many bloatware applications.
The flat profile of the back panel of this smartphones gives a nice appeal to the eyes. Metallic painted rims provide a premium feel to the phone. However, the phone feels slippery in the hand. As the back panel is not curved, the speaker mesh gets blocked when the phone is put on a flat surface.
- Fast processor
- Dual SIM
- Both front and rear cameras are capable of capturing stunning images
- Full HD recording is also possible
- Decent power backup
- IPS display panel
- Gesture Support
- Low pixel density
- Internal storage is low
I would recommend this smartphone only to those people who are into photography. For other smartphone lovers, there are a number of good alternatives available.
I always appreciate coming of new companies, whether big or small, to the Indian electronics market. Competition among smartphone brands is always a good thing, especially for Indian customers. In the last two years only we have seen a dramatic trend in the market. Now even a budget customer can purchase a smartphone that offers exceptional performance. The competition is not settling yet and there is no chance of happening that in the near future too.
Lenovo, which is better known for offering quality mobiles at extraordinary prices, recently launched its new budget competitor, the A1000. This phone is currently available for an amount of 4,665 rupees. For the price, it offers some really great features that are worth mentioning in this review.
Surprisingly, this smartphone sports a quad-core processor that clocks at a whopping 1.3 GHz. It also comes coupled with 1GB of RAM that provides enough space for a number of applications to run simultaneously. However, the chipset that it houses is manufactured by not so popular brand, therefore the performance of this smartphone will disappoint many customers.
Suitable For One Handed Use
The A1000 has got a 4-inch display and comes in a really compact form factor. It gets easily fitted into the hand of any size. Moreover, you will have no problem in reaching the far end of the display with a single hand. The resolution of 800 X 480 pixels results in an average pixel density of 233 PPI.
Average Camera Performance
Although you might like all other features of the Lenovo A1000 but its camera performance will be certainly disappointing. The rear 5MP shooter fails to capture details and the front 0.3 MP camera is only good for video conferencing. However, you cannot expect anything more at this price point.
Lenovo deserves appreciation for offering Android 5.0 Lollipop on a smartphone like this. However, the interface is heavily customized and the people who are not familiar with Lenovo’s ecosystem will have some problem in operating this phone.
- 8 GB of onboard storage
- Supports micro SD card
- Decent battery life
- Fast processor
- 1 GB of RAM
- Mali-400MP2 GPU
- Third party chipset
- Bad viewing angles
If your budget is really tight, then I strongly recommend the Lenovo A1000 smartphone. In this segment, it offers some really cool features.
