Three Smartphones Between 6999 to 7499 Rupees

Tamanna Bhatia Launches Celkon Octa 510

In the mobile phone market, there are many great devices around the budget 7500 Rupees. Thus, saying yes to one budget smartphone without measuring the alternatives available is not the right way to buy a good phone. Here I have selected three popular smartphones from Celkon, Obi, and Karbonn. All these phones have decent specs, so-so build, and the recent features. Not suggesting that you should mandatorily buy one instead read about them to understand the current specs standard under 8000 Rupees budget.

Dual SIM Celkon Octa 510 with MediaTek Octa Core Processor

With a noticeable market presence in South India, the brand Celkon is turning out to be one of most favorable Desi smartphone brand today. Recent launches by this brand have been successful with some decent sales number. The Octa 510 is one of few smartphones available around 7000 rupees with Octa core processing power. This device comes with some valuable features.

The Celkon 510 offers lag-free multitasking, good camera performance in outdoor-indoor and it also takes selfies in good quality to share on social media platforms. With lightweight craft in a thin shell, its body is measured in 9.1 mm of thickness and only 136 grams of gross weight including battery. Celkon has not made any revelation on Lollipop update, though. It is powered by Android Kitkat 4.4.2 operating system.

The 5-inch IPS LCD screen, which bears One Glass (OGS) technology sports HD resolution and a decent number of pixel density. For the price it is made available in market, users would be satisfied with the display quality as it gets wide viewing angle and sufficient brightness with a decent balance in contrast. Display depth and colors are deep and natural that looks quite vivid and responsive in day-to-day operation.

Celkon Octa 510 Specifications and Review

With MediaTek Octa-core processor, the 510 is a guarantee to smooth multitasking and excellent gaming experience. It comes with balanced hardware of 1GB RAM and Mali 400 GPU. You won’t experience heating or sluggish performance thanks to a well-suited integration of hardware and software.

The power section of this Celkon device is loaded with a 2000 mAh battery, which longevity on one recharge is not so impressive. Therefore, we offer a quick and easy solution for this problem. We recommend the Battery Doctor App for quick optimization of the smartphone for battery saving, which translated into needed nurture for your smartphone. In my opinion, a 2500 mAh battery could have been justice with running Octa Core processor.

Camera Feature and Key Applications Installation on this Smartphone

The Celkon India has packed the smartphone with an 8MP primary and 3.15 MP front facing cameras. The primary camera comes with 720P recording and dual LED flash. Besides you get usual geo-tagging and regular camera features. Falling under 7000 rupees budget, the Octa 510 is also a decent choice for selfie lovers. I could be able to store some quality shots with natural colors and a good amount of background details.

Because of some hot features, this phone has become a hot choice for users. HotKnot, Voice Controlled Camera Application, Smart Gesture, OTG Support, Document Viewer, Photo Editor and FM radio are some predominant features on it. Also, Celkon is offering a quality flip-cover in the sales box.

In totality, we like the Celkon Octa 510 because of its premium feature, excellent processing power, and free flip-cover.

Dual SIM Android Smartphone Obi Leopard S502

The Leopard S502 is a solid smartphone with a decent set of hardware and installed software. I like this device for its purity for stock Android. It runs on the latest Android Kitkat 4.4.2 and there is an option to have a future update. Considering demand in developing markets, the S502 supports dual SIM connectivity wherein one SIM port is dedicated to the 3G network. It offers a standard look and sturdy craft where is a metallic back panel with matt finish. It is 8.6mm thick and little heavier than other smartphones in 8000 rupees budget. However, buyers would get a premium flip cover and a screen protector sheet in the sales box beside the regular contents.

The Leopard S502 sports a 5-inch screen with qHD Display wherein resolution is measured in 540 by 960 Pixels. In terms of display quality, it is not brilliant, though. Viewing angles of the display is good. Also, the touch panel is quite responsive during multitasking and gaming.

Obi Leopard S502 Specifications and Review

The S502 dons a quad-core MediaTek chip with a clock speed of 1.3 GHz coupled with 1GB RAM and Mali 400 graphic processing unit. Out of 1GB, approx 600 MP free RAM space is available after the first boot. This is a good amount of RAM available at a smartphone for end users. Approx 6 GB is available from the installed 8GB ROM. The device supports microSD card memory expansion upto 32 GB. To install apps directly to microSD card, users need to alter the setting, which is by default is to install on the phone memory. This smartphone is ideal for big games considered amount of free RAM and option store application at microSD card. At the AnTuTU benchmark, the Obi Leopard S502 gets a score of 17980 Point.

Poor Camera and Multimedia Features of this Obi Smartphone

The 8MP primary and 5MP front facing cameras are just for namesake. Additionally, in terms of performance both camera do just average.

At the multimedia entertainment side, once again we are disappointed because of lacking advance features. The Smartphone doesn’t support to HD video playback. And, 480P is the maximum video quality to get easily played. However, its main speaker could produce loud audio with a good clarity in bass sounds.

Quick Features:-

  • Wi-Fi Hotspot is supported
  • An LED Light notification is available
  • OTG is not supported
  • Video Calling Supported

Conclusion: The Obi S502 is packed with a 2100 mAh battery, which lasts a day and a half on normal usages. Overall, it is a smartphone with above-average specification and quality.

So-So Budget Smartphone Karbonn Titanium S6

The Titanium S6 is one of good choices available around 7000 rupees budget. This smartphone is quite identical to the Galaxy S4 in terms of outer appearance. This is a budget smartphone with mediocre performance and camera feature. It is a dual SIM concept in regular SIM size and one of the port supports to HSPA network. It is packed up in a poly-carbonate shell where outer remains quite a slippery render fear to slip out from the holding hand.

The S6 features a 5-inch qHD display with wide viewing angle and easy orientation to single hand operations. Its display is bright and crisp, but with slightly poor contrast and oversaturated color. It runs on Android Kitkat 4.4.2 with a custom user interface on top. Since I am a big fan of stock Android experience Karbonn's attempt of doing something custom is a disappointment for me. In fact, the customized user interface hasn’t done any enhancement rather produces some lag. The Titanium S6 doesn’t offer any custom display setting thanks to Karbonn custom User Interface.

Further, the S6 is powered by a quad-core processor of MediaTek, which blinks at heart with a clock speed of 1.3 GHz. Its processor is coupled with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage as well as Mali 400 MP2 GPU. Memory expansion goes upto 32 GB just by inserting a microSD card. At the AnTuTU benchmark, the Karbonn S6 earns a score of 19378 points, which is fairly good. No complaint as far as processing power is concerned but uncomfortable heating foray just after 5 to 8 minutes of multitasking or playing of HD games is not well appreciated on it.

Poor Camera Management on this Karbonn Smartphone

The Karbonn Titanium S6 lists 8MP primary and 2MP front facing cameras. It doesn’t support to HD recording and limited at 480P maximum resolution at 30 frames per second. Karbonn has replaced the stock Android camera apps with its own custom camera application, which doesn’t offer any custom setting. Autofocus and Shot capturing is pretty slow and annoying. For good camera performance, you must have a well lighted ambiance, time and patience. Output images are in good quality with decent exposure, white balance and sufficient brightness. Coming to video recording, you have output in ultra poor quality. Also, the lack of additional mic results in poor audio input during the video recording. In totality, the S6 offers poor camera experience.

At the multimedia side, it scores just average. And, the reason being despite a very good sound management, it can only play 480P videos. Certainly, it is not impressive.

All in all, I are not impressed with Karbonn Titanium S6 because overheating issue in CPU, poor camera management, and over-customized Android.
