HTC Desire 816 Dual SIM
After losing significant mass appeal of smart phone users, the HTC brand is in the process of re-invention. HTC Desire 816 Dual SIM is one such example of that. The smartphone lists some appealing features for users of the developing world. Under the initial launch, the Desire 816 was introduced in European and Asian market whereas rest users could purchase it online.
Look, Feel and Design
HTC offers premium class craft with classy design and the range of HTC Desire is the example of this. Desire 816 comes in pack of plastic body and owns curve of rounded corner looks similar to brand’s flagship product the HTC One M8. Though it is made of some cheap plastic, which is sufficient fingerprint magnet, but the HTC packaging with phablet type screen makes it a true star.
Taking leaf out of earlier successful smartphones, HTC has given out the model with BoomSound speakers. The Desire 816 Dual SIM features dual frontal speakers which add more to entertainment value of it.
Display and User Interface
HTC should have put some logic before designing a smartphone. Super LCD 2 does look vivid and offers right amount of clarity, still it is an outdated technology. Today’s low budget smartphones are powered by class 3 security and latest display such as FHD or Super Amoled. Besides LCD2 screen, the Dual SIM smartphone offers HD resolution with 16M colour production ability while there is just 267 Pixel Density.
Talking good part of its Display story, viewing angle is absolute true, colour look original and the 5.5 inches display does fair job with HD contents. Moreover, it features upgraded user interface Sense 6 which comes with bigger font size and device management.
The Snapdragon Quad Core processor onboard runs smoothly and hardly shows any lag during gaming and multitasking. The Desire 816 is powered by Snapdragon 400 Quad core processor with clock speed of 1.6 GHz alongside 1.5 GB RAM and Adreno 305 GPU.
The smartphone lists 13 MP conventional primary camera and 5 MP front facing camera. There is not much to fanaticism about the camera application. In day light, it does good job by securing images with good details, but indoor Photoshoot is not so great. Talking about technical specifications, the 13MP rear camera does record FHD video with 1080P resolution. 5 MP front facing camera supports FHD recording and transmission of It on the 3G network.
It is equipped with 2600 mAh battery and features Extreme Power Saving option for longer usages on single charge. Battery lasted for me a day and half while Facebook, twitter, Times of India and Economics Times was on active push. Heavy users should carry charger as its big screen consumes battery faster than a regular champ.
I am not big fan of having non-removable battery feature in a smartphone. The HTC Desire 816 has non-removable battery option, which create problem while the smartphone goes in hang mode.
It has 3G, 2G with Dual band Wi-Fi. Though it lacks NFC, but DLNA and Bluetooth 4.0 seems to be sufficient for daily requirement. Having dual SIM option makes it more feasible choice for Indian consumers. Out of two SIM port, one is dedicated to GSM and another to CDMA network.
The greatly designed smartphone offers standard outlook, strong built and Dual SIM feature in the combination of GSM + CDMA where 5.5 inches HD display owns excellent viewing angle. Though the smartphone seems poor in the current competition, but the quality and strength of HTC is still unquestionable.

Samsung Galaxy S4
The story of Galaxy S4 starts with praise for its fantastic camera, powerful processor and software cum apps for every step in life. Interestingly, the galaxy S4 can be used as TV remote and various other mode options. With enabled NFC function, changeable battery, and extra storage expansion through microSD card, makes it a best choice in 25000 rupees budget.
Look, Feel and Design
A flagship smartphone still shines better than its successor in the market. The launch of Galaxy S5 turned to be boon for Samsung fans as the price for the Galaxy S4 dramatically reduced by the Samsung. Though it has plastic body, but the overall build and stiffness remains smoother than its competitor in the market.
According to Tech experts, the S4’s straight sides are inspired with iPhone and HTC one series. Design wise it is almost similar to the Galaxy S3 except sides which covered in straight and shining metallic bezel.
OS, Display and User Interface
The 5 inch FHD display offers the resolution of 1920 × 1080 Pixel whereas pixel density stands at 441 PPI. But the real charm comes to display because the qualities of Super Amoled. It nails saturation, contrast and sharply defines object edges with details. Watching an image gallery or entertained by HD videos, every user act is responded with absolute great appearance on the screen. In my view this is the best screen one can have at current budget of 25000 rupees.
The greatness of screen ends at this point. While sunlight is strongly bright, outdoor readability becomes tough in reading or identifying icons on the screen. We tried with full brightness; still result wasn’t great while the phone was representing the Samsung for a long period in the flagship smartphone contest.
It was launched with Android 4.2.2, but the same has been upgraded to Android Kitkat 4.4.2 followed by Android Lollipop upgrade soon. Touch Wiz ecosystem is one of big source of Income for Samsung as it brings freshness and vivid colours option in screen. The latest production of the smartphone runs on TouchWiz UI over Android Kitkat operating system.
Samsung’s flagship smartphone is powered by Dual Quad Core Cortex A15 and A7 processor. According to the official fact-sheet, the first processor A15 is quad core architect with clock speed of 1.6 GHz and the second processor A7 is also quad core with 1.2 GHz clock speed. To maintain hardware balance, there is 2 GB RAM and PowerVR SGX544MP3 GPU inbuilt.
For our test, we played hundreds of HD and FHD videos. Going a step further, there is rough game juggling with multiple rich graphic and high dimension games. In totality, the smartphone turned to be real winner as it never hacks up to irritate you. Running multiple hard pushing apps, doing multiple tasks, having loaded unfinished game and then watching HD videos suddenly – all makes it impressive.
At the time of launch, the smartphone was competing with HTC One, which is also a flagship smartphone from the HTC. While in the real world, there isn’t much difference, but technical quality test shows- the Galaxy S4 has upper hand than the HTC One.
As far as processing part is concerned, the smartphone is absolute genius in the current online price than its competitor.
There are three parts of a camera feature in a smartphone. First camera quality second is camera speed and last one is supporting software and apps. The smartphone scores big at all three quality area. Samsung has equipped the smartphone with realistic 13MP primary camera and 2 MP front facing camera. I have never seen so much clarity and colours and detailing in an image, taken by a twenty five thousand budget smartphone. You can shoot excellent HQ images with natural colour appearance and good details. The same is carry on with HDR mode and easy video mode.
Just leave away the multiple shot mode, the automatic mode does absolute satisfying job for common users. Advance user and camera enthusiast can take benefit of multiple setting options. The 2 MP front camera owns similar compliment and praise Coming to the technical part of the Camera – both are capable of recording FHD video @ 1080P resolution. Moreover, there is placement of powerful LED flash, which complements primary camera in excellent way. Some of noticeable features are Dual Shot, Simultaneous HD video and image recording and Dual Video recording by the front facing camera.
2600 mAh battery does look less in the technical comparison n the budget category. However, you should trust Samsung quality as battery consumption by the phone is less, despite heavy load put on. For me, it went for 2 days on medium usages on the active 3G network.
The single SIM smartphone is standard 3G networks compatible with added support from Dual Wi-Fi. For hardware connectivity, users get NFC, DLNA, Bluetooth, Infrared port and USB 2.0 with Host option.
Multimedia and Memory
Samsung’s flash ship smartphone S4 comes in 16, 32 and 64GB variants. For memory expansion, there is external microSD card slot which supports up to 64GB of MicroSD card. In India, 64GB version is not available so buyers have option to choose between 16GB or 32GB version.
Though it lacks built-in FM radio, but user can entertain by HD or FHD media playback option along with clarity of Bass from inbuilt speakers.
After the failure of Galaxy S5, there is massive price discount on the Galaxy S4. This is golden opportunity for mid budget smartphone seeks to own one of highly successful and true smartphone model.

Microsoft Lumia 830
After the merger of Nokia Mobile in Microsoft Device, there are few launches with Lumia Tag in low – budget category. The Lumia 830 is the first flagship smartphone from Microsoft Device – as confirmed officially by the Microsoft.
Look, Feel and Design
The Lumia 830 design is in line with the usual practice of Nokia. The polycarbonate body is fitted well into metal rim while the front is lavish black, stretch to the length of 5 inches. Sharp edges and corner remains smooth. A premium outlook, not the first time from Nokia (Now Microsoft) is much more inspiring, standard and affordable for an affordable flagship gadget.
With 150 gram of body weight and 8.5 mm thickness, the first flagship smartphone of Microsoft released in September, 2014.
Display, User Interface and Operating System
Microsoft 830 has 5 inches HD display in 1280 × 720P resolution with 294 PPI pixel density. Though the display is not full HD, but real IPS LCD brings much needed brightness and doesn’t let you feel much for HD display. There is Corning Gorilla Class 3 protection for the display. Under direct sunlight – readability is exceptional and doesn’t require brightness level adjustment thanks to Nokia’s ClearBlack technology in the display. On its 5 inches which is not FHD, viewing angle is good, colour look natural and object icon looks sharp and impressive.
The Smartphone runs on latest Windows Blue 8.1 have Windows Powered User Interface for users. According to Microsoft, future upgrade in the OS will be respected by its hardware architect. So having windows device in hand lets user to remain updated with OS update.
The 830 is packed with Snapdragon 400 Dual Core processor which clocked at 1.2 GHz speed. To stabilize processor we find 1 GB RAM and Adreno 305 GPU. The processor specification does look lesser compare to comparative smartphone in the market. However, we cannot forget that the Window OS is designed to consume less hardware resource. It loads everything very quickly and never surprises user with sudden hiccup. Watching Videos, playing games and doing Facebook and Twitter remain smooth always. Without doubt, it has thumbs up for hardware configuration and processing ability.
The Microsoft 830 is also a camera phone. A smartphone which qualifies to Nokia’s PureView Camera technology, packed with 10 MP rear camera, optical image stabilization and Zeiss optics. There is a dedicated camera button which opened up the Camera App even though screen is locked. Its camera software takes second delay to reach on ready mode to shoot images.
Camera functionality spreads between multiple options such as auto-mode, night, sport, and close-up. I would like to give special mention for smart sequence mode which help to pick up the best shot from a sequence.
Overall shooting with Nokia Lumia 830 is absolute thrilling. Image produced by software looks sharp, vivid and natural. Low-light shooting is one more thriller as performs better than Galaxy S4 – what we observed.
2200 mAh. Though it is lesser than the Galaxy S4, but the Windows ecosystem plays the great role in the less consumption of hardware resources therefore less consumption of battery. For my normal usages kept the smartphone alive for two and half days. The 830 has impressive battery backup.
Its single SIM connectivity supports 4G LTE network, but we are not sure about Indian 4G compatibility. Talking about the other connectivity options – it has Dual brand Wi-Fi, DLNA, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and Micro USB 2.0.
Multimedia and Memory
The flagship device is packed 16 GB internal memory and supports memory expansion up to 128 GB with a MicroSD card.
In the account of multimedia, we find FM radio, HD video playback, Nokia’s Mix Radio, Internet Radio, and a 3.5 mm audio jack which supports Dolby Digital Plus quality music.
In my view, this is the best Lumia ever. We compliment the gadget for premium build, good hardware, excellent battery, top class camera, and true entertainment value. The current market price of 26000, it is one of most considered choice for buyer.
The Z30 is the reinvention of Blackberry’s strength. It should be appreciated for big screen, long battery life, BBM, and excellent calling clarity. The only downside with the phone is its operating system and Camera. Black Berry OS lacks quality and third party engagement in the form of app development. Over the period, we have witnessed big revamp in the entire BB Eco-system, but still it lacks behind iOS, Android and Windows.
Look, Feel and Design
As it is clear from brand name, the flagship smartphone owns the Jet black colour scheme covered in silver rim covers all side edges. Its rounded corner and nano-coated smooth backs add more to design and hand grip. Blackberry logo at back and front under the display, makes it an impressive premium selection for users.
It is neither a light-weight nor a bulky device. According to the official fact-sheet the device weight is 170 gram and has thickness of 9.4 mm.
Display, User Interface and Operating System
Super Amoled touch screen is supported by HD display and 720P resolution. Pixel density in the display stands at 294 PPI. The Z30 is biggest screen ever from the house of Blackberry.
On the display comparison benchmark, it doesn’t come close to other flagship smartphone such as HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4. However, for Blackberry fans, this smartphone with power of BBM is absolute marble.
It runs on BlackBerry 10.2 operating system and upgradable to BB 10.2.2. There are several new additions to operating system to make more acceptable according to the today’s reality. BlackBerry HUB feature was introduced in version 10, now improved as “Priority HUB”. The new HUB feature tracks your most interaction on Facebook, Twitter, Email, and SMS and pushes on top of the prior list. In other part of notification setting follows the path line of Android and iOS.
Blackberry made identity with QWERTY keypads. But the new Z30 gives a miss to physical keypad. Its virtual keypad with predictive text makes it a smartphone with best software keypads.
Blackberry Z30 is powered by 1.7 GHz Dual Core Pro Snapdragon processor alongside 2GB RAM. For graphic user interface, it owns Quad Core Adreno 320. Performance is sluggish and does bother you on regular usages.
It sports 8MP primary camera and 2 MP front facing camera. Blackberry has added HDR mode, found in the most of smartphone today. Also, all other usual feature such as auto focus, Geo-tagging, face detection is listed.
I am totally unimpressed with camera performance. Raw picture quality is very poor, recorded videos are not so impressive and god help users during indoor Photoshoot. So the camera application remains a poor feature in the Blackberry Z30.
Battery & Connectivity
2880 mAh battery provides super backup for longer run. For my medium usages, it lasted for three days. So, the Z30 gets credit for having really strong battery backup. The Single SIM Blackberry flagship offers Dual Band Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 and GPS.
Certainly the smartphone is not going to appeal masses. You have to be diehard fan of Blackberry brand to become the owner of the phone. For Blackberry consumers it is classy choice but same cannot be said about common users.

LG G2 32GB
As I can recall, the launch of LG G2 in August, 2013 was considered to be big milestone success in the development of smartphone. The G2 was awarded by Tech Guru Indian as the best smartphone in the year 2013.
Look, Feel and Design
The G2 is a combination of new design, innovation, and believe of doing something revolutionary. In general, volume and power buttons are placed at right side of edge, but in the G2, they are the back. You need a week usages to become use to with volume, power and camera option. Considering a standard human hand, G2’s design is focus to make use of the phone a single hand operation. With body weight of 143 gram and 8.9 mm thickness, it is lightweight, thin and strongly built device.
Display, User Interface and Operating System
The device sports 5.2 inches FHD display in 1080 × 1920 Pixel resolution. The gross pixel density in display stands at 423 PPI. Its wide and vivid display shows crisp images, vibrant videos and icon appears with sharp edges. Readability in the direct sunlight stands well as you don’t need to make any adjustment in the display while you are out.
The G2 runs on latest Android Kitkat 4.4.2 and upgradable to Android Lollipop 5. LG had introduced the phone with flagship tag, considering it a new beginning for the brand. There is customized user Interface, which runs over the operating system. New UI locks out no of new features, but also hosting some poor functionality issues. According to LG, issue related to UI will be sorted out in the future upgrades.
LG’s successful flagship device has super-fast quad core Snapdragon 800 processor with 2.26 GHz processing speed. With 2 GB RAM power, we find the concept of GRAM wherein special memory allotment is meant to do graphic core handling.
Opening app or running multiple push services under hood, all are done on blink of second. This is a supersonic smartphone with power of Qualcomm chip.
There are 13 MP rear camera and 2.1 MP front facing camera. Both camera can record FHD video. The rear camera comes with feature of auto focus, optical image stabilization, Simultaneous video and image recording, Geo-tagging, face detection, and HDR option.
In general, image quality is excellent, crisp, sharp and filled with natural color and good details. I must acknowledge that I had great shooting outdoor and indoor. So camera application is big thumbs up in the G2. FHD video in 1080P @ 30P/60P is requires special mention. The video output is superb and can be used for professional production.
After the launch of LG G3, there is heavy discount on LG G2 32 GB model at e-shopping websites. If your budget falls between 25K to 30K, then the LG G2 is one of best contender at current market price.
