Acer R3 131T Laptop Tablet Review Specifications

Tablets to Replace Your Laptop

During the 1990s, desktop computers always fascinated me. A couple of years later laptops became famous and my curiosity went to a much higher level. I always wondered what the computers of future would look like.

Whenever we talk about future, the time reference is usually of at least one hundred years from the present. People always underestimate the power of science and technology. Truly speaking, the future is already here!

Although laptops are more compact and portable than desktop computers, but these devices tend to be heavy when you have to travel with them all the day. Generally, an average laptop weighs around 2 or 3 KG and carrying such a load in a backpack is always a struggle.

Thanks to the consistent growth of technology, we now have tablets that are more powerful than they were ever in the past. Today, manufacturers can create processor small enough to fit on your fingertip and powerful enough to run a whole NASA Moon Mission. These chips do not even demand a cooling system, so companies can easily install them on tablets, which are lightweight and ultraportable than laptops.

The question is, have the tablets of the modern world become powerful enough to replace your laptop on the front of productivity?

In this article, we are going to discuss three such tablets that are available in the market at affordable prices and are supposed to deliver laptop-like performance.

Asus Transformer Book T100HA FU009T Tablet

Asus had unveiled the Transformer Book T100HA tablet back in the first half of 2015. At that time, it was the first tablet to run on Windows 10 platform. The tablet attracted experts from around the world, though it took some months for Asus to launch it in India.

Currently, this device is available for an amount of 21,990 rupees and seems to be a perfect solution for budget people. Let us discuss the features of the tablet in detail.

Metallic Body

Although it is a budget device, Asus was still able to feature a metal casing on it. The build quality of the device is really attractive. It feels solid in the hand and does not suffer from any kind of flexing or creaking.

Customers also get to choose from multiple color variants. The volume rockers are located on the left side while the power button is on the top.

Bright and Big Display

This Asus tablet flaunts a big 10.1-inch IPS display. Its screen resolution of 1280 X 800 pixels is not that attractive but is manageable considering the display resolution of the laptops of the same price segment.

Its LED backlighting is impressive as you can easily read text outdoors. In technical terms, this display generates a brightness of 350nits, which is more than what many mid-range laptops offer.

Contrast levels are high and screen generates accurate colors with minimum distortion in details of the graphics.

Slightly thick bezels allow the users to handle the tablet easily without touching the screen. The display is molded in 3:2 aspect ratio to offer a classic cinema experience.

Average Performance

Under the hood, the Asus Transformer Book T100HA features Intel’s Atom Quad-Core X5-Z8500 processor. Each core of this processor runs at a base frequency of 1.44 GHz and has the capability to jump up to 2.24 GHz using the Turbo Boost technology.

This chip seems to be promising but is actually not. You cannot run heavy 3D modeling and rendering apps on this device.

The processor supports up to 8 GB of memory, however, the manufacturer has only equipped it with 2 GB of RAM. Integrated Intel HD Graphics is not powerful enough to run graphic intensive games smoothly.

Full Desktop Windows Experience

The greatest benefit of purchasing this tablet is you will be able to run Desktop apps on it. The device runs desktop version of the Windows 10 operating system.

Out of 64GB of EMMC storage, you will get around 37 GB to install apps and store personal files. I would like to point out though this device does feature a storage expansion slot.

Great Connectivity Options

On this tablet, you will get a bunch of connectivity options. Asus has featured a microUSB port, a micro HDMI port, and a headphone jack on the right side. Surprisingly, the tablet also flaunts a USB 3.1 Type C port on the left side.

Due to the metallic casing, Wi-Fi reception gets severely affected. In my test, the wireless downlink speed never crossed 40 Mbps mark.

Free Keyboard Base

In addition to the tablet unit, the packaging box also contains a keyboard base. This base offers a limited typing area because of the small display size, though after a few days you will get used it. A track pad in the front helps a lot while typing documents and browsing websites. The keypad also features a full-size USB port on the right side, which is a bonus.

The build quality of the keyboard is not as good as the tablet. It features a plastic body that flexes a lot. The slots on the backside are sharp so it might give scratches to the bottom bezel of the tablet.

Long Battery Life

Asus is promising at least 12 hours of power backup on a single charge. While using it for a couple of days, I was able to fetch the battery backup up to 8.5 hours through light to moderate usages. However, the charger gives a low output and it takes a quite a bit of time to fully charge the battery.

Important Features:

  • Features a 5MP camera on the back and a 2 MP shooter on the front
  • Two rear-facing stereo speakers generate loud and clear audio

  • Attractive and durable body
  • Screen is bright
  • Impressive battery life
  • Compact
  • Features a USB Type-C port

  • Low-resolution display
  • Flimsy keyboard base

Considering the price point, this tablet is a great option to go for. You are getting a big bright display and a free keyboard to type on. The performance of the tablet is a downer but so is the performance of all other laptops available under the price tag of 25000 rupees.

HP Pavilion X2 (10-n125TU) Hybrid Tablet

Since the last one or two years, HP has become quite active in market. In the past few months only, it has flooded the electronics world with a bunch of new devices.

The recently launched HP Pavilion X2 is one of the few tablets that experts think are capable of replacing a laptop. To take this device home, you will have to spend an amount of 28,500 rupees.

Unique Design

Unlike other alternatives, this hybrid tablet attaches to the keyboard dock with the help of magnets. These magnets automatically pull the tablet on to the slots, so you do not have to align them perfectly. The hinge of the dock offers a great degree of swivel because of which users can position the screen according to their comfort.

The tablet itself is thicker at the bottom and thinner on the top, a design that provides a perfect balance to the whole setup.

Great Keypad

The keyboard this tablet comes with is just amazing. No other tablet keyboard offers a tactile feedback as responsive as this one. The keys travel much deeper and the jump to their original position with the help of an underneath spring.

IPS Display Panel

The 10.1-inch display of this tablet that offers a resolution of just 1280 X 800 pixels will be a disappointment for many people. Actually, low-resolution display means pixilated graphics, but the quality of the screen is not as bad as you are thinking. HP has installed an IPS panel on this tablet for better contrast ratio and wide viewing angles.

Images and videos generate natural colors. The wide panel of this device is great for media consumption.

Fluid Performance

The Intel Atom Quad-Core X5-Z8300 processor this device features is inferior to the processor of the Asus tablet we have discussed in the above sections. Still this tablet offers a more fluid experience. 2GB RAM will be a limitation for people who like to multitask a lot.

HP Pavilion X2 10 n125TU Hybrid Tablet

Surprisingly, this tablet offers 500 GB of onboard HDD storage. I would like to point out though this hard disk will give low read and write speeds.

Like most hybrid tablets of 2016, this device also runs on Windows 10 OS. The onboard operating system is a 64-bit compatible firmware. You will be able to install more demanding apps like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects, though running such heavy software fluently will be a problem.

Powerful Battery

HP ships this tablet with a two cell inbuilt battery. After fully charging the battery, you can expect 8 to 9 hours of power backup.

The tablet features USB Type-C port for charging and data syncing. There is also a full-size USB port just below the Type-C port. However, both these ports are based on USB 2.0 technology, which means you will not get high data transfer speeds.

Important Features

  • Comes with a mini HDMI port
  • Tow front-firing speakers are great for watching movies

  • Great performance
  • 500 GB storage
  • Great design
  • User-friendly keyboard
  • Immersive sound reproduction
  • IPS display panel

  • No rear camera
  • Average display resolution

I believe, HP could have featured a full HD display on this tablet, though the current WXGA resolution is not bad for productivity related tasks and occasional media consumption.

In terms of Performance, the tablet is impressive. I did not expect an Atom processor to offer such a fluid experience while running a desktop grade OS.

Acer R3-131T Laptop

When it comes to buying laptops in the low budget, Acer is the best brand I can recommend to my readers. This brand offers extended warranty and decent support on almost all products.

So, I thought why not include a device from a brand that is already famous for offering budget laptops. After browsing through Acer’s website for a couple of hours, I finally found a suitable product for this article i.e. the R3-121T Laptop.

To be honest, the Acer R3-131T is not actually a detachable laptop but still its functionality is similar to a tablet in many ways. And, at just 26,747 rupees, this device can be a highly portable solution for productivity needs.

Compact Profile

As I said, it is not a detachable laptop. Therefore, there is no possibility of holding the device in hand while using it.

This device still qualifies for a highly portable laptop, as its body is compact and lightweight. Two hinges attach the display panel to the main body. These hinges also allow 360-degree rotation. Technically speaking, you can put the keypad upside down and rotate the display until it gets in presentation mode. This feature is quite helpful for professionals who have to show presentations, PDFs, and other stuff in official meetings.

Powerful Speakers

Acer has equipped this laptop with a pair of two speakers (placed on left and right side). The audio quality is great. Drivers are powerful and generate undistorted audio frequencies.

Disappointing Display

This laptop features a big 11.6-inch display, though its quality is not very impressive. Acer has gone with a TN panel instead of opting for an IPS one. Limited viewing angles degrade the user experience and make watching movies on this laptop almost impossible. The HD resolution of 1366 X 768 pixels is another factor that will push away media consumers.

However, for the people who just type documents and make presentations, the screen could be manageable.

Powerful Processor

The display quality of this laptop might disappoint some customers but its performance will just blow your mind. While both tablets discussed in this article feature Intel’s Atom series processors, this laptop runs on a superior Pentium series N3700 processor.

This Acer laptop comes with 4GB of DDR3L RAM, which is upgradable up to 8 GB. Onboard 500 GB storage provides plentiful space for storing hundreds of movies, images, and songs.

 Wide Range of Connectivity Options

The greatest benefit of purchasing this laptop is you will get all the needed connectivity options. You get a full-size Ethernet port along with Wireless LAN. It also features one USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0 port. Power button and volume rockers are on the right and users can easily access them even when the laptop is in presentation mode.

Important Features:

  • The laptop comes with inbuilt webcam and microphone
  • Touch display
  • When the laptop display is rotated beyond 180-degree, the Windows 10 operating system goes in tablet mode

  • Good for productivity
  • Great performance
  • 4GB RAM (which is upgradable)
  • Windows 10 OS
  • Display can be rotated up to 360-degrees

  • Bad viewing angles
  • Display is not detachable

If you want a device that is primarily a tablet, then this laptop is not the right choice. This Acer product is mainly for people love laptops but just want a little portable and lightweight solution.
