New smartphone XOLO ERA sets the new benchmark at the specification index. At a price of 4444 rupees, the user gets quality, quantity, and cool multimedia features. If still, someone complains, then the individual is suffering from a well know illness called “BUT”. Those are suffering from this “BUT” illness tends less satisfied even you bring them the universe.
Let’s leave behind all rhetoric and focus on the features and specification of the XOLO Era.
We praise Xolo Era for
- USB OTG Support
- FHD Recording and Playback
- A pocket-friendly price tag
- Sufficient RAM Space
- Good amount of internal storage
- Decent battery backup
- Ultra fast processor
In my opinion, at the current price of 4444 rupees, the XOLO era packs all good features and does not have any major cons. This makes it a paisa Vasool smartphone below 4500 rupees. Please note this phone is Snapdeal exclusive, so you need to make an online registration in order to grab this in your pocket.
Design and Built
I am not impressed with its design ergonomic because the rectangle shape is now out of fashion. All corners and edges are smooth for perfect grip and easy hold. This is a plastic shell, which gives a sound of toughness on an easy knock. We can measure this low budget smartphone in 9.2 mm thickness. This is not a fact to be surprised because its selling price limits the brand’s ability to bring a premium and glossy thin design.
- Travel Adapter
- USB cable
- OTG cable
- paper documents
The Android Lollipop should have been a better choice for this phone. Nevertheless, the Android Kitkat is widely used as a friendly operating system, which runs here in its default version.
The XOLO Era powered by a quad-core Spreadtrum processor. China-based Spreadtrum is not a popular brand in India. However, we cannot deny the fact that it is one of the fastest growing processors, especially in the low-budget segment. One GB RAM is sufficient space for a low-cost smartphone to execute all multitasking. Mali 400MP GPU has been in Indian smartphones for a long period now. I am sure the end user will be amazed to see the performance of this trio.
Memory management is the main highlights in this phone. While 8GB internal storage and 32GB microSD card support is a regular feature nowadays, USB OTG support is indeed abnormal. This is a rare feature to have in a low budget phone. Now the question is, why we are sought for USB OTG support? An OTG support means a user will be able to make this phone an ultimate gadget for multimedia browsing and application execution without storing them in the main memory. A support of USB OTG brings freedom of entertainment on one go.
A good smartphone is built on a promise of balance hardware and perfect sync between hardware and software. This is important for a gadget in order to have flawless performance without heating, hang or application crash.
The XOLO Era sports an FWVGA display wherein the resolution is measured in 480 by 854 pixels. We are talking about a screen with IPS LCD panel, which delivers clear, true-life color and sharp icons. A standard 196 PPI Pixel density ensures sufficient clarity, but the same time consumes slow fuel from the battery. I have made this point many times – a phone should be designed in order to conserve battery juice in an effective way.
High PPI does not serve any purpose in daily life usages yet sucks all battery power in just 15 to 20 hours. I have a question; do you want a phone in your pocket along with a charger or without a charge? I am sure a person with logical sense will admit that a phone should be in your pocket whereas the charger should remain stationed in drawer.
With a 480P resolution and 196 PPI pixel density– the XOLO Era achieves good viewing angle and decent color reproduction.
There are few weaknesses that can be ignored in general usages. For example, a limited of two points touch. This means the XOLO Era is not a fully multi-touch smartphone. But again, we have to be logical –I am sure you have not seen a person using a phone with 10 fingers.
Trust me; I am not over pitching when I say, the XOLO Era is a budget camera phone. Although I was looking for a branded image sensor, but the default camera optimization in this phone is remarkable. The primary shooter is an 8 MP camera, which is optimized for FHD recording at 30 frames per second. Yes, I agree, the rear shooter lacks auto focus, but you will ignore this when you get a clear understanding of the role of auto focus.
XOLO offers so much in this camera phone that one missing feature does not have relevance. An LED flash is present to offer a better shooting in low lighted condition. The user will be able to complete better photography session thanks to some cool preset features. Scan detection, Panorama, Geo Tagging, HDR, slow motion recording, freeze frame display and burst mode are some noted features for the end users. Also, the Selfie or front facing camera does a fair job in good light.
After the display, CPU, Memory and Camera performance, The XOLO Era’s rich multimedia playback ability will embrace you. FHD video playback is something almost missing in low smartphones. In the XOLO Era, a user can play MPEG4, MP4 and other popular video files in full HD quality. Also, it has a dedicated music player and image browser. Yes, we cannot forget an FM tuner, which delivers free live 24 hours of nonstop musical entertainment.
We are little disappointed with lowered version of connectivity options. USB 2.0 is fine, but Bluetooth 2.0 is not acceptable. Other options in the connectivity segment are Wi-Fi, GPS and a gold feature called OTG.
Wow! 2100 mAh battery for a quad core hardware that displays content in 480P resolution is indeed great. I am sure the end user is going to love this phone for the longevity of the charged battery. According to the official fact sheet, one full charging session will last in three hours and 30 minutes. This is incredibly horrible. Once fully charged, you can listen to nonstop music for 31 hours while a headphone is attached. If you want to play music for everyone around, then this phone will last for just 24 to 25 hours. Video playback is just limited at 5 hours of a nonstop session.
- USB OTG and 8 GB internal storage
- Display with average pixel density to save more battery power
- Good Camera
- Mighty battery backup
- Rich multimedia playback feature
- Bulky design and poor shape
- Lowered connectivity options
- Few sensors
- Slow charging session
This is one of the finest champ in low budget segment. I am impressed with this phone. In my observation, this phone has a quality and affordability. This Snapdeal exclusive has a long way to go.
