Indian brand Micromax is excited with the success of Yu Smartphones. The success of Yu Yureka is not hidden from anyone. After just four months of the launch of Yu Yureka, the manufacturer decided to add another smartphone to its lineup.
The Yu Yuphoria was launched this year in the month of May. It is a much affordable yet quality smartphone on which Micromax can really bet on. As of now, this smartphone can only be purchased via flash sale at the Amazon India where it is listed with a price tag of 6999 INR. One great fact about the Yu Yuphoria is that every part of it has been assembled and designed in India only.
The brand YU has started operation as a joint venture between Micromax and Cyanogen Inc in December 2014. While Micromax is a well-known brand in India, the Cyanogen Inc owns Cyanogen operating system, which is a modified version of Android OS.
As of today, the YU holds exclusive right to manage and distribute Cyanogen operating system in India. Micromax is responsible for sales and support for all YU smartphones.
Micromax has hit the nail in wall with superb designing of the Yuphoria. The smart gadget is well-designed and gorgeous looking with the best colour composition. It looks sturdy and feels much comfortable in the hand. The frame of this smartphone is made of plastic with metal covering the edges. Its power button is located in between the volume rockers on the right side. This smartphone comes with a thin profile of just 8.5 mm and weighs 143 grams only. The backside of the phone looks much similar to the iPhone 6, which is something that should be, criticized the most.
The smartphone flaunts a 5 inch IPS display packed with a HD resolution of 1280 X 720 pixels. A high pixel density of 294 ppi is certainly a great bargain at this price. You will not find any kind of distortion from steep angles and the text can easily be read even under bright sunlight. Color reproduction of the display is great that further enhances the user experience. It also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
You will find an 8 MP rear camera on this phone, which is equipped with an OmniVision sensor. This camera is really great at capturing details even in low lighting conditions. However, you will face some difficulty with the auto exposure mechanism of this phone. Users can also record full HD video at 30 frames per second with this camera. It has also got slow motion (60 fps) support for 720p format. The Yu Yuphoria features a 5 MP 85 degree wide angle camera on the front, which is great for capturing selfies.
Performance (Storage, Benchmarking, Gaming and Everyday Usage)
One of the most attractive features of this phone is its quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 410 SoC (64bit) coupled with 2 GB of RAM. This much of RAM is really a rare to see feature even on smartphones priced at 10,000 INR. Adreno 306 GPU makes everything smooth and fast on the display. The 16 GB on-board storage of this smartphone is expandable up to 32 GB using a micro SD card.
The scores that the Yu Yuphoria gets in benchmark tests are not that attractive, but they are pretty decent as far as the price of this smartphone is considered. In AnTuTu this smartphone gets an average score of 23377, which puts it in competition with other phones like Moto G 2014. A score of 54.4 fps in Neenamark 2 and of 14676 in Quadrant make this phone an average performer.
You will not find gaming much impressive on this smartphone because of frequent frame drops most of which arise because of software bugs. Using this phone as your daily driver can create some problem as the software is not that refined until now.
The Yu Yuphoria is a dual SIM phone and surprisingly it supports Indian 4G networks on both SIM slots. Other connectivity features of this smartphone include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio and micro USB.
This smartphone comes with all the basic sensors like Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Proximity Sensor, Ambient Light Sensor and Compass.
The manufacturer has tried to improve the quality of audio output with the introduction of Pure Wolfson Sound Technology and AAC speakers, but all it efforts seem to be failing. You will not experience a premium quality music listening experience even if you use a high priced headphone.
The Yu Yuphoria features a user removable battery with a capacity of 2230 mAh only. It is a smartphone not made for heavy users and if you are, then you better carry a power bank along.
The Yu Yuphoria runs on CyanogenMod 12, which is a customized ROM based on Android 5.0. CyanogenMod OS is known for the customization capability that it provides to the user. You will be able to change everything on this phone as far as the interface is concerned. It also comes with a special feature of in-app theming which is not available on the other bundles of CyanogenMod. You will certainly enjoy the interface of this phone and the features that come along with this customized OS.

However, there a lot of people who will be thinking to buy this phone just for the taste of Cyanogenmod without getting the warranty of their phone void.
