InFocus M530 Review and Specifications

American corporation InFocus is not a new venture, but in the smartphone market it is definitely a new player. By launching some high-end smartphones in affordable price, this brand has made a good place specially in the Indian smartphone market. Just a few days ago it launched its latest smartphone, the M530, at the price of 10999 Rupees. One specialty of this smartphone is that it sports two 13 MP cameras, one at the back and the other on the front. Other specs of this camera smartphone are also making much curiosity among smartphone lovers.

This smartphone has got a nice and premium touch. Its removable back panel is made of plastic, but does not feel cheap in any way. The metallic edges make this phone more pleasing to the eyes. The power key is located on the right side while the volume rockers are on the left. Engraved InFocus branding on the back is the other thing that provides a classic looks to this phone. The smartphone measures 9.1 mm in thickness, which is not much if you look at the price point. Navigation keys are located on the chin and they do light up.

5.5 inch IPS Display

The InFocus M530 comes with a 5.5inch HD IPS display. Its resolution of 1280 X 720 pixels translates to a pixel density of 267ppi because of the bigger screen size. However, you will not find any pixilation during the usage. Viewing angles are nice and there appears to be no distortion of colors. This display is best for watching movies and playing games as it will give an immersive experience to the user.

This phone has also got Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which really helps in protecting the display of this phone. However, in the competition of making thinnest smartphones, manufacturers place a thin layer of protection on the display. So, you might get a few noticeable scratches if you will be careless with your phone.

13MP + 13MP Camera

As mentioned in the introduction also, the InFocus M530 has got a 13 MP camera on the back and another 13 MP (with wide angle lens) camera on the front. The rear camera comes with f1.8 aperture, which captures more light and also helps in blurring the background. While the front camera comes with f2.2 aperture, which is good for taking Selfies as everything will remain in focus. Both cameras feature Sony Exmor sensor and comes a super LED flash.

The rear camera is capable of recording 1080p at 30 frames per second. If you want higher frame rate, then you can switch to 720p mode and record at 60 frames per second. You will not have to worry if your hands are shaky as this phone comes with Optical Image Stabilization feature.

Performance (Storage, Benchmarking, Gaming and Everyday Usage)

This smartphone is a performance beast for sure. It has got a quad-core 1.7 GHz processor for handling light tasks and another quad-core 2.0 GHz processor for all the extreme tasks. The 64bit chipset could have provided some extra power, but this phone runs on Android KitKat that does not support 64 bit processing, so that area will always remain unexploited.

This phone features a 450 MHz GPU that handles graphics pretty well. Out of 2GB of RAM more than 1GB remains free, so you should not have a problem on the multitasking front. The phone comes with 16 GB of on-board storage, which is expandable up to 64bit via a micro SD card. Moreover, you can also select the micro SD card as your primary storage.

The InFocus M530 leaves behind the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in AnTuTu benchmarking with a score of 51562. Vellamo Metal gives this phone decent score of 2037 while Vellamo Multicore returns a really high score of 2262.

This phone performs really great when it comes to gaming. You will experience no frame drops and all the graphics unfold pretty well. Games like NOVA 3, Frontline Commando and Real Racing 3 run without any glitches.

Also, in daily usage you will not face any kind of problem with this smartphone. This phone easily handles multiple apps at the same time. Touch response is good and interface is really fast.

This is a dual SIM phone wherein the first SIM slot supports 4G, 3G, and 2G networks while the second SIM slot can only work on 2G and 1G networks. The HotKnot feature proves to be a great alternative to NFC, but the bad thing is that this feature is limited to a few devices only. Other connectivity features of the InFocus M530 are Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and micro USB with OTG support.

The list of sensor of this phone is really rich and includes Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Proximity Sensor, G-Sensor, Ambient Light Sensor and E-Compass.

3100 mAh Battery

The InFocus M530 is powered by a massive 3100 mAh user removable battery. It is quite an exception that InFocus has got success in putting a high capacity user removable battery on this phone without affecting its design. This phone easily lasts one day on moderate usage.

User Interface

This phone runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Inlife UI on top. The interface is not that great in terms of looks and also comes with many bloatware. However, InFocus has effectively optimized its custom skin, which is why more than half the RAM always remains free. This phone also supports multiple gestures access, which translates into great user experience at a higher level.

The Android Lollipop update is still a matter of speculation as the manufacturer has not said anything about that.

  • 13 MP rear and front camera (Both come with Auto focus feature)
  • Dual-tone LED flash on the back and soft LED flash on the front
  • 2GB RAM and 2.0 GHz octa-core processor (4+4 MediaTek Chip-set)
  • HD Display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection
  • 4G and HotKnot support
  • Great battery life
  • Pleasing design

  • Sound output is not much loud
  • Phone is a little heavy

If you ask me, there is no better option available in the market as of now. InFocus has done a really nice job in bringing down high-end specs at this price. This phone can easily disrupt the market of OnePlus One and other phones like that.
