With the huge success of Xiaomi’s phones in India many Chinese smartphone manufacturers now understand the huge potential of the Indian market. So it comes as no surprise that Coolpad – the third largest Smartphone manufacturer in China is now looking forward to making its mark in the Indian market by launching the Coolpad Dazen 1.
The Coolpad Dazen 1, launched back in June exclusively on ‘Snapdeal’, is a power packed device that includes a 5 inch display, 1.2Ghz Processor and a 2GB RAM, but perhaps its most impressive feature has to be the price, Rs. 5999.
Build Quality & Hardware
The phone comes with a crisp 5 inch display, with 720×1280 pixel resolution, though a protective coating like Corning Gorilla Glass is missing, and weighs in around 155g. The phone comes with a matte finish back panel, which provides a good grip. The phone has a complete plastic body and does not offer a premium look.
The power button is located on the right side while the volume controller is on the left. The micro USB port lies in the bottom and the top houses the audio jack. The back panel houses the camera, LED flash and mic. Below the display are three standard soft touch buttons namely Home, Menu and Return.
The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 64 bit 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, paired along with a 2GB RAM. The internal storage is only 8 GB out of which 4 GB is available for the user, but you can expand it with a micro SD card.
The Phone is dual SIM capable with 4G connectivity, which only a few handsets offer in this price range, namely the YU Yuphoria (Rs. 6999) and Moto E 4G (Rs. 6999).
The Coolpad Dazen 1 does not fall behind in the camera department as well. The main camera is an 8MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash, the front has a 5MP fixed focus camera to satisfy everyone’s selfie craving.
The main camera does provide decent images in well light environment, but lacks in producing details and sharpness in the end product. The images begin to distort when you try zooming in and focusing is also a bit of an issue.
Operating system and User Interface
The phone runs on Android 4.4.4 (Kitkat) with a custom UI known as the ‘Cool UI’, which looks very much similar to the MIUI as seen on Xiaomi phones. The UI is not very much resource intensive so you will not find much lag on the phone. But the lacking fact is that the phone does not offer the latest Android OS, Android 5.0 (Lollipop) is a bit of a disappointment.
The phone includes a 2500mAh removable battery that is sufficient to last a day with basic browsing and video playbacks.
The Coolpad Dazen 1 is definitely a power packed device and one of the most powerful devices in its price bracket. The phone can definitely provide enough muscle for many resource intensive tasks and high-end gaming. Though the older Android version and average camera performance might be a letdown for many, but at its price we are not complaining. Also, since Coolpad is a new entrant in the Indian Market its after sale support system might not be at the level of its competition. But with its specs we will definitely recommend the Coolpad Dazen 1 to anyone looking for a good budget Smartphone.
