Sony MDR XB650BT Headphone

An average Indian recognizes Sony with smartphones, televisions, and cameras. This Japanese brand is doing business in these segments since a long time. However, every successful brand in the world tries to expand its reach by getting involved in new businesses. In order to maximize profits and expand its business, Sony is trying to secure a place in the headphone market from the last few years. Luckily, its efforts are not going into vain.

With consistent hard work, Sony has managed to launch some great headphones. One product of which I am really a great fan is the Sony MDR XB650BT Headphone. In a very short period, it has managed to impress music lovers. This device is currently available out there for around 7000 rupees.

Metallic Frame

Interestingly, even at this price point, Sony could produce this headphone with the extra-durable metallic frame. Its flexible headband will not break easily no matter how much you stretch. The back of the earpieces features a high-density plastic cover, which is strong enough to last for years.

Lightweight and Relatively Comfortable

Although Sony has used quite a lot of metal in this headphone but still it feels much lightweight. I was shocked with the level of comfort this product provides after wearing it on the head. The manufacturer has provided thick padding on the headband as well as on the earpieces.

I would like to point out though it is an on-ear headphone. It will put a lot of pressure on your ears and is not good for listening to music for long durations.

The headphone looks really great. Sony has used the same design language that was used to make the widely appreciated XB950BT headphone. Customers also get to choose from multiple colors variants.

Superb Bass Levels and Clear Sound Production

Sony has equipped each driver of the MDR XB650BT headphone with a large 30 mm driver. These drivers are capable of producing full range audio and offer a frequency response range of 20-20000 Hz.

The alphabets “XB” in its name stand for Xtra Bass. This clearly shows that bass generation is the USP of this device. However, when a mid-range device like this is forced to produce strong bass then the lower-mid frequencies are directly affected.

The overall audio production remains decent. You can listen to any kind of song on this headphone.

Comes Equipped With Wireless Technologies

This Sony headphone connects to smartphones (and other source devices) via Bluetooth 4.0 technology. An NFC chip helps a lot in pairing new devices.

On the right earpiece of the headphone, you can find a bunch of controls including track control slider, volume buttons, and a power key. You will fall in love with these controls just after using them once.

Sony has also featured a massive battery on this device, which gives power backup of more than 30 hours at medium volume. For the average user, a single charge will last for more than a week. Moreover, a microUSB charging port allows the users to use any compatible smartphone charger to the charge this device.

Sennheiser PMX 686G Sports Neckband Earphones

Wired ear bud style headphones create a mess while working out. Many times, they fall off the ears and then the users have to spend a couple of minutes setting the wire around their body and neck. A good way to solve this problem is by using a Bluetooth ear bud. Even this is not the best alternative though as wireless headphones degrade audio quality in most scenarios.

Recently, the popular headphone manufacturer Sennheiser launched PMX 686G Sports Neckband Earphones in the market. This device features a unique neckband design and seems great for people who work out a lot. If we take the word of the manufacturer, then this device will solve the problem we were discussing in the preceding paragraph. Let us dive deeper into what this sub-7000-rupee headphone really has to offer.

Superior Audio Quality

Although it is an ear bud style headphone but performs like an around-the-ear one. The bass is really deep with punchy frequencies. Treble is high, but not that enough to cause pain in the ears.

The earpieces of this headphone do a great job of isolating the user. Even at 50 percent of the maximum volume, you will not hear any outside noise. In addition, the headphone successfully eliminates sound leakage. I tested it by playing music at 100 percent volume and a friend sitting next to me was not able to recognize the song.

Its wide frequency response range of 18-20000 Hz is enough to prove how much capable the audio drivers are. The low impedance of 30 Ohm enables the users to enjoy the music at full potential with a low output source device.

One of many reasons why this headphone generates good quality audio is it connects to smartphones via an aux-in cable. The drivers can fetch all the needed power from the source device, which is something not possible in case of a wireless connection. Inline remote control works perfectly with Android smartphones, though it may face some issues with iOS ones.

Good Build

Durable build materials help this headphone remain undamaged even in the toughest conditions. Sennheiser has covered its earpieces with an anti-bacterial coating, which keeps the user safe from infection.

It is also a sweat resistant device. No matter how sweaty your ears are, the circuitry of the headphone will not suffer from any damage.

Sennheiser believes in the durability of this device so much that it is offering two years of warranty on it. The brand also ships a convenient storage pouch with the box.

Totally Uncomfortable

This Sennheiser device is one of the most uncomfortable earphones available out there. It looks like Sennheiser’s engineers have totally overlooked the comfort aspect while designing its neckband.

I would like to add though this headphone stays firmly attached to the ears no matter how fast the user is running. Still, I would not prefer an uncomfortable earphone around my neck even if it offers great sports performance.

The earpieces are so tough that sometimes it feels like you have put a pair of stones in the ears. The neckband itself offers much less flexibility and becomes some trouble if you have long hair.

  • Looks attractive
  • Manufacturer has used very high-quality materials
  • Holds the ears firmly
  • Generates immersive audio
  • Volume is pretty high
  • Offers great isolation
  • No sound leakage problem
  • Inbuilt microphone

  • Highly uncomfortable
  • It is not as portable as other earphones

In my opinion, the Sennheiser PMX 686G is an earphone in progress. There is a big room for improvement. The neckband design has the potential to attract buyers. I am sure Sennheiser will harness its potential by making this device more comfortable in the future versions.

Creative Outlier Wireless On-Ear Headphones

Personally, I like around-the-ear headphones. However, these types of headphones are bulky and not a great solution for outdoors. While working out in the gym or walking on the street, we usually want something that is not only lightweight but also looks great.

Therefore, the best solution for outdoor music listening will be an on-ear style headphone and today, I have a budget level suggestion for you. The Creative Outlier Wireless On-Ear Headphone comes with a price tag of 5,000 rupees and delivers superior audio. In this review, we will discuss many great features of this device.

Stylish and Lightweight

This headphone is surprisingly lightweight. Sometimes you would not even feel it is on your head. Its headband is thin and looks really great on the head. Soft cushions of the ear cups perfectly isolate user’s ears.

Still, your experience will not be as comfortable as it could have been in the case of an around the ear headphone. The ear cups of this device push directly against the earflaps and make the user feel fatigued in case of long music listening sessions.

Great Audio Quality

You will experience loud and clear audio on this headphone. Even if the volume is set to highest, audio frequencies do not suffer from any kind of distortion. Sound stage is not present, but still there is some level of stereo effect.

Bass production is average. The neodymium drivers of this headphone fail to generate deep low frequencies.

Wireless Connectivity

This Creative headphone offers Bluetooth connectivity. Inbuilt NFC chip saves a lot of time in pairing source device. The manufacturer has provided a 3.5 mm jack for users who like wired connections. Surprisingly, this device also comes with a microSD card slot, which means you do not need a separate source device in order to play music. Its onboard media player allows the users to skip and control music tracks on the go.

You can also receive calls on this device with the help of inbuilt microphone. This microphone reduces ambient noise to a great level because of which the person on the other side of the call receives clear voice.

Long Battery Life

On a single charge, this headphone can play music for around 10 hours continuously. This means you will have to charge it only once in a day. Moreover, the manufacturer Creative also ships a USB charging cable in the box, using which one can charge the headphone via a power bank.
