Four Smartphones in 13500 to 16000 Rupees Budget

Micromax Canvas Selfie A255 13 MP Front Facing Camera

HTC Desire 620G Dual SIM

HTC has been trying to position itself as a premium brand with a large catalog of sophisticated smartphones. Its smartphones promise brilliant build quality and reliable hardware. It, however, has been outshouted from the elite class because the devices from Samsung and Apple have much better features.

After getting a beating in premium segment, now HTC wants position its in the lucrative budget smartphone market. Thus it has launched a series of smartphones that are economically priced than most of its smartphone so far. HTC’s mid budget smartphones come with dual SIM feature and falls under the 15000 rupees category. Today, the discussion is about the Desire 620G, which is one more attempt by HTC to share feel of its premium craft to mid-budget smartphone buyers.

The 620G is a rear blend of quality and comfort with enhanced processing power. It runs on a Octa-core processor of MediaTek where each core is boosted at max of 1.7 GHz of clock speed. Having Octa-core processor ensures that user enjoy multitasking and gaming in lag free environment. 1GB RAM and Mali 450 MP2 graphic processor unit is addition to the processing power for better HD gaming and multimedia playback. For day to day usages, this is a good choice with quality inbuilt features and hardware.

The Desire 620G sports a 5-inch screen with LCD display in HD resolution and impressive 294 PPI pixel density. Its display is quite vivid and renders natural color and wide viewing angle. In addition, it is a dual SIM smartphone runs on an Android Kitkat 4.4.2 and HTC Sense user interface over it.

HTC Desire 620G Dual SIM Review and Specifications

With the desire 620G lists a 8 MP primary auto focus and Fixed focus 5 MP front facing camera with BSI sensor. Both camera is reported to have 1080P that is FHD recording ability. The custom user interface HTC sensor brings betterment of camera application with bunch of new and regular features such as autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection and panorama. We do not hold any complain for camera performance as it delivers sharp and quality output with natural colours reproduction.

The 620G improves than the predecessor in every way. We have noticed considerable improvement in the design to make it more suitable for single hand operation. With its gross weight of 160 gram, it is just 9.6 millimeter thick and has a glossy matt finish back panel.

Obviously 2100 mAh battery is not suitable to power a gadget whose CPU is based on an Octa core processor. The battery, however, renders backup for much longer than what we had expected. In fact, on normal usages, the phone runs around 35 to 40 hours. This should be considered impressive.

Finally Micromax has joined selfie-oriented smartphones league. The Selfie A255 is offers unique camera experience with improved design seems to be handy for day to day operation. Today, the Selfie A255 offers the best camera experience under the 15000 rupees budget. It has bitten competitors with an easy yet effect custom user interface wherein camera application is a hero. We got more options in custom camera application than what we get the stock Android platform. A255 is a good choice for cell phone photography geeks in today’s market.

Since it is a camera centric smartphone, I am going to spend more time on the camera specification than the rest. The Selfie A255 comes with auto focus 13 MP primary and rear camera. Both camera features LARGAN lens and Sony sensor for better photography. The smartphone has a dedicated camera button and custom camera application, which is improved and loaded with hundreds of unique features. The Micromax has worked really hard to get the best out of Camera specifications. The 13 MP primary camera is powered by dual LED flash to register the best quality snaps any moment.

Micromax Canvas Selfie A255 13 MP Front Facing Camera

Also, I am totally impressed with camera application which offers many customs to enhance you shot. The application loads quickly and displays suitable feature to capture the subject in the best quality. Here is example of available custom features.

  1. Enhance Eye and make your eye look bold.
  2. Slim down face by setting correct tone of your face.
  3. Soften skin and improve oily face and remove wrangles as well.
  4. White teeth

These features work effectively and enhance image quality. I am sure that the Micromax Selfie smartphone is a good choice for those takes many photos and shares regular update at social media platform.

Most of smartphone is quite effective while sufficient natural light is available. However, limitation exposed while user try to have some Photoshoot in low light environment. The Selfie A255 is answer is a good answer to this problem. With two LED flash, it captures the best quality images in low light. This is the best Micromax smartphone for indoor photography.

The front facing camera is as effective as the rear camera. Yes indeed! The Selfie A255 is one of the best selfie smartphones around 15000 rupees budget. By the way it earns full marks for its camera performance.

IPS LCD Screen

The Selfie A255 sports a 4.7 inch HD IPS LCD display with 312 PPI pixel density in the protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The display offers good viewing angle even at the stream angle. It supports upto 10 fingers multi-touch and express responsive touch panel.

Micromax Selfie smartphone is powered by a Octa-core MediaTek processor, supported by a 2GB RAM in company of Mali 450 MP2 Graphic processing unit. The device runs on Android KitKat 4.4.2 and Android Lollipop roll-out happening sooner. There is a custom user interface with basic modification runs smoothly at the top. Out of 16 GB of ROM installation, user has a share of 12 GB. 1.4 GB of free RAM was available after the first boot of the gadget.

It is quite handy in dealing of multitasking and HD 3D games. We have played Subway surface, Modern combat 5 and Asphalt 8 for gaming review. I cannot say the experience was 100% smooth yet there was no lag or frame drop. At the reputed AnTuTU benchmark, the Selfie A255 got a score of 33405, which is better than the HTC One.

The Selfie A255 is packed with a 2300 mAh battery, which renders 8 hours of talk time and approx 7 days of standby at the 2G network. According to my learning, 2300 mAh battery performance is just average. The Octa core processor demands more power therefore battery drain out quickly.

The Micromax should be congratulated for splendid job as far as designing part is concerned. Though it is packed in a plastic shell, yet it looks premium. It has a curbed back with a leatherette design and metal seems to fit at sides. The entire body is made with plastic.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Max

The Samsung mobile has finally woken up against the rising challenge from Motorola, Xiaomi, Asus and Micromax. The Grand Max is one of the best galaxy smartphones under 15000 rupees budget in India.

Excellent Camera

I like this smartphone for its elegant design and awesome camera performance. The Grand Max features a 13 MP rear camera with Sony BSI image sensor and a powerful LED flash. Camera performance remains impressive whether shooting outdoor or indoor. Even in low lighted ambiance, it captures good shot. Output Images quality is impressive with adequate sharpness, filled with natural colors and good background details.

The camera on this Samsung device captures images in excellent color and it even does impressive performance in low light ambiance. In my verdict, the Grand Max earns all the points for camera performance.

Good built quality and design

This smartphone is just 0.25 inches bigger than a regular smartphone available in market. It is a plastic built yet quite impressive and attractive. In fact, the back panel has a unique texture design that makes it anti-slippery and easy to hold in hand.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Max Review and Specifications

Share and Vibrant Display

The Grand Max comes with a handy 5.25 inches screen in HD resolution wherein pixel density is measured in 282 PPI. We cannot call it one of the best displays because of fingerprint magnet yet it is vivid and attractive. Viewing angle is not great and there is some distortion at the extreme angle.

Samsung has been using display vividness as a key UPS seems to be back sheeted here. TouchWiz – the Samsung’s custom user interface runs over the running operating system without consuming more resources thanks to recent depreciation of some unwanted features.

Good Performance and HD Gaming is Supported

For processing, the Grand max has a quad core snapdragon 410 processor with clock speed of 1.2 GHz for each node. I would like to add here that the Snapdragon 410 is latest processor to improve mid range smartphone ability to stream videos, live TV and certainly 3D gaming.

In terms of processing power, the grand max is genius. You won’t experience heating or lags during multitasking and gaming. In my seven days of usages at extreme level, we had hardly experienced any lag or sluggish performance. The end user gets share of 12 GB ROM and 920 MB of free RAM after the first boot. The gadget runs on the latest version of Android Kitkat 4.4.2 and Samsung has not given any update on the Lollipop roll out.

Gionee Gpad G5

As the brand Samsung is credited with the notion of big screen smartphone, Chinese brand Gionee has been the first to say Hello to a smartphone with a big battery. Gionee’s Gpad series offers quality handset with big battery power without increasing gross weight of a smartphone. In simple word, Gpad smartphones are more about battery than the rest of features.

Since battery is prime focus in here, we will start review of battery performance first. The Gpad G5 has a 2400 mAh battery, which is usual in a smartphone today. The good news is that despite a big battery at the back, gross weight of the device is just 149 gram. Gionee though claims to create miracle with Gpad series, but we do not find it is an extra ordinary device. The given 2400 mAh battery drains out in just one and half days on normal usages.

Gionee Gpad G5 Review and Specifications

In terms of designing, it is quite impressive smartphone. The G5 is measured in 157.3 mm long by 77.6 mm wide and just a 7.9 mm of thickness. With battery gross weight is 149 gram and without battery weight is 104 gram. The smartphone comes in solid black colour with matt finish. Entire body shell is made of plastic that feels sturdy and solid in hand. The G5 owns dual speaker feature – one is placed at the top and another at the bottom. Sound output from both speakers is extremely loud and clear. This is a dual SIM smartphone where both SIM port offers accommodation to micro SIM size.

Sales Box

I thank Gionee for giving a leather flip cover and two screen guards in the sales box. This saves at least 600 rupees of buyer. Besides this, there are the usual phone accessories and booklets.

Phablet Screen and HD Display

The G5 sports a 5.5 inches screen with HD display and 267 PPI pixel resolutions. In my rating indeed display is better and quite promising. Gionee approach seems to be honest as there is excellent screen to body ration 68.5% with 720P resolution. Display is not bright enough yet vivid and viewing angle is excellent. We cannot forget dragon glass protection, which is better than the corning gorilla glass.

The G5 runs on Android Kitkat 4.4.2 with Amigo user interface over it. Gionee’s custom UI does not improve performance rather it creates lag and sucks RAM space. A rocket button is built-in to free up RAM. My question is to Gionee, why we should have a user interface, which does no good to the phone? With Amigo UI, this smartphone has a list of popular application and social media apps such Facebook, twitter, Whatsapp pre-installed.

  1. Five finger touch is Supported
  2. Double Tap is supported
  3. Smart Gestures Work Fine

The G5 has a MediaTek Hexa Core processor with clock speed of 1.5 GHz. It has a Mali 450 graphic processing unit for 3D and HD gaming support. Having Hexa core processor is a guarantee of better performance and lag free multitasking.

We had played Asphalt 8 and Modern Combat 5 for gaming review. In fact, minor lag and frame was notice that all thanks to power optimization of the Amigo UI. In terms of processing strength, this is a fine choice, but running custom user interface Amigo spoils all greatness. At the AnTuTU benchmark testing, the Gionee Gpad G5 has a decent score of 25469 points.

In totality, I am not impressed with Gionee Gpad G5. This is a concept less device. Indian brand Lava has already launched a smartphone with 4400 mAh battery, priced around 6000 Rupees. Lava fuel series phones are perfect alternative of this Gionee device.
